I like the Subaru H6 but don't like the fact the new ones are CVT. So just put the 2006 3.0R into the garage for the first major repair at 195,000 miles. One head gasket was blowing combustion byproducts into the coolant. So we're replacing the head gaskets and overhauled the heads as required, changed the water pump and thermostat, and changed the timing chains. Should be done this week but I expect the bill to be over $2,000. I intend to drive it until at least Fall of this year (about 220,000 miles, most likely) but may keep it longer. Here it is next to a 2005 Legacy GT wagon. I much preferred the cleaner styling of the Legacy wagons, but they were not offered with the six cylinder in the US. There was a 3.0R Spec B wagon available in Europe with the Bilstein suspension, Legacy body and 6 speed manual, but the 3.0R was only offered with the 5EAT VTD drive system here. The Outback XT (turbo 2.5) was available with manual some years. Front of motor waiting for water pump, gaskets tubes etc. Undercarriage looks good for 195K and 10 years of NE winters.
Sitting around home with a busted knee reading in shiny things and ended up with station wagons, had a few myself Merc 320T CDI 6 straight turbo , magnificent car, some BMW 525 diesels, boring engine, no torque. Volvo 145, 245, 745 V70 2.4 petrol engine and five or six V70 D5, the last 3 AWD, all in all very good cars. Also in the land of envy, Sweden, being an independent contractor you do not drive an Audi, BMW nor a Merc. A Volvo is ok even if it costs more, 45000 for an XC and nobody gives but an older 25000 German sled and you're not looked upon with nice eyes. One of my sub contractors is slightly car mad and has a chipped RS6, with about 700 hp or so and that car is incredible, it's by far the fastest most hard accelerating vehicle I've ever driven. I'd love a car like that but then when he tells me about his workshop bills I'm happy with the XC.
I am sure that I got my love for Station Wagons from my father. I don't remember the exact year, but it was a mid to late 60's Catalina wagon that looked something like this. (from Google images) I remember bouncing around in the back on many a family trip! Rick G
I bought one of these for my not soon enough to be ex wife. She refused o even sit in it, my bro's a bit of a citroen guy so he fixed the odd little french quirks. Went down to the lumberyard to buy fllooring chip board and as I loaded the car up the laughed at me as it sunk lower and lower and said that I would never to be able to get the low rider home. But he who laughs last laughs best, the look on their faces when the hydraulics did their job was[ un forgettable. QUOTE="Sheep Shagger, post: 27085141, member: 65488"]Looks like Citroen DS estate.
