I never thought I would be posting for a ride in the middle of January. Anyone up for a ride from the Denver area this Saturday? I'm not sure how much snow/ice there is up there, so it could be kind of short. I was thinking about the Central City area because of all the possible options. Meet at 10 am at the base of Golden Gate Canyon. Then have lunch somewhere.

Out east would be fun sometime. Are there lots of trails? Some unique areas? Maybe you could lead one? I'm game

I live up near Ned and the Peak to Peak. There is a LOT of that crappy gravel on the roads. Also the freeze thaw is making for some icy spots on North facing areas I was thinking of riding too; but looking at lower elevations...

I live in Ned. I'm not riding. As pointed out, too much gravel, too many icy spots, too much snow left in the shade and on north-facing areas. The same holds true for Central City, having just driven through there on my way home.

Not much in the way of trails. But the gravel county roads can be nice. the old towns can be interesting. Lots of dying or dead towns. Some interesting resturants in thos old towns. Some old battle feilds, like Beacher Island, or Sand Creek. Bents Fort is worth seeing. The plains have a differant beauty to them. There is a thread in Pictures about the plains, take a look at it.

I'm planning on heading south or east on Saturday. I haven't decided on a destination or anything yet. Probably gonna leave Denver earlier than 10, though.

I've got the same plan. Sometime before 10, departure and heading south and east. I'm going to scour some maps tonight and see if I can make a route of some sort. Anything off beat, preferably dirt, sounds interesting.

I can't 100% confirm because a client could swoop in and want to see houses tomorrow. I'll know for sure by this evening. I'm leaving from Boulder. If anyone wants to coordinate, let me know!

The 8:10 to Yuma. Never been and there's a weird open dirt area, just to the south west (link). Any intel?

You can check out a website called "Fort Tours". it has maps and info on historical places to explore.
If you want some technical stuff, try Penrose Commons.
I was up near Trout creek Pass a couple days ago. Lots of snow up there in the Four Mile area. Maybe ok on some of the lower trails.

    Bomb crater? No idea.

I'm game for coordinating a ride. I'm pretty much downtown, but could meet in Boulder or zip up I25 and catch you there.

    :stupid

that's a low spot that fills with water - see the cowtrails heading to it.

I can't go Saturday, I'm riding the W up to Longmont to it's new owner.....but I did (finally) get the 310 ready to go, and it needs a good shakedown ride before I take it to Moab.

oldmanb777 - Thanks for the tips. Will plan a spring trip or 2 out there:) It would a good change of pace.

Should turn out to be a good day tomorrow. Another 60 deg'er. More snow melt. Good for riding, bad for water supply.

    Central City here I come.

Anyone ridden just north and slightly west of Limon? There is a huge ope area with hills and valleys. I got routed through there by an old gps many years ago. It was beautiful! Looks like lots of exploring opportunities. I thought it was BLM at the time, but I can't find ownership... I might head out there.

What a gorgeous day. A little ice in some of the deep valley shady corners in the morning. Other than that it was a great ride. Hardly any gravel on the paved parts. Thanks for tagging along Dimitri.
