I'm new to the smart phone world and recently got an I phone 4. I am looking for a water resistant case I can put on my bike. I'm looking for a case that has a clear lid that will accept the phone while it is in it's otter defender case and allow it to be plugged into the bike's power. I see that pelican offers an Icase, but was wondering if there was something you guys could suggest.

    thanks

Well you can dump the defender and pick up a lifeproof case and bike mount. rei has the bike mount on sale now. (and extension adapter so you can still use the phone on alarm clocks and other ports)

the case is water PROOF (submergible and capable of being used while swimming) but.. not when the port is open for charging.

edit: the best price on the lifeproof case is amazon, if you have a local fry's they will price match and no wait.

Just as a point of reference I can confirm that an Otterbox defender in the side pocket of motorcorss pants is not suitable to watercrossings over the top of said pocket. :evil

I went with a Lunatik case. $100 (If you have access to Promotive you can get this case at a very good discount.) I like this case because it has hard rubber edges which help hold it securely in the cradle. It is also the thinnest most durable "otterbox" like case I have seen. Out of the cradle is it comfortable and easy to carry in any pocket.

Then I used a Ram PDA Cradle from Powerlett, here is one on E-bay $20. I have ridden int he desert and have had a coupe of falls and this cradle holds the phone like a champ. It has never come loose or fallen out.

Lastly, I used a weatherproof USB port for motorcycle from Burns Moto. I like this because it includes a snap connector for attaching to switched power. Makes it very easy to install and will only be on when the bike is running. So you can't accidentally leave something plugged in and drain your battery.

I have seen the Otterbox and it is also great case, just a little more bulky than the Lunatik. I think that the cradle I used will work with the Otterbox. It has a spring tension component to it that clamps the arched prongs down onto any type of case/device in the cradle. The prongs on the side of the cradle are adjustable for width.

Check out SlipGrip. The holder is vacuum molded to the phone shape. They utilize RAM mount 1" balls.

Aerosticth sells a case for the IPhone that easily mounts on any size handlebar, is waterproof, and costs about 40 dollars. The only problem for you might be that the phone will only fit in without an outside case already on it. I don't find that a problem as my current case slips on and off very easily. However, the phone fits in the mounted case very snugly and the mounted case slips on and off the mount in a snap. I generally just snap it off when I go inside to eat and take it with me. It has a clear face cover that allows me to see the phone face and is touch sensitive. It also has a port that can be opened to allow charging with the car charger plugged into my auxiliary port.

ok so i think i'm down to deciding on (2) different cases: the lunatik or lifeproof. both seem very good and the price is similar. i see a lot of each on ebay with varying prices. how can you tell if it's fake besides the obvious coming from hong kong?

My iphone shuts off after 5 minutes in direct sunlight on the bike. You guys don't have this issue?

Not yet, but then again I'm not in Arizona. I haven't used mine through the Summer yet. Something I hadn't considered, but will report back once it heats up here.

Lol, I'm sure you'll be fine in MA. I'm a little annoyed with iPhone because it overheats so easily when it's warm out. In the summer, mine overheats and turns off even in an outside jacket pocket. I have to bury it in my tankbag or in an inside jacket pocket. Even outside by the pool, I have to bury it under a couple of towels.

For winter months I do use a waterproof case I purchased from eBay for about $30. It has a mount that attaches to my handlebars and it will slide onto that. It has a waterproof port for the charging cable and it's been 100% waterproof. I bought this before there were any option in the states. Now I see a similar case sold for about $50-$60.

i use a quadlock also and friggin LOVE it. They always have a cupon code floating around for 10-15% off when you order it online so search for that.

the pancho isnt waterproof (its more damp-proof, or mist proof) and will not allow to be plugged in to either headphones or charger - which is not a concern for me as it never rains in Sun Diego!

Life proof case w/ bar mount. Waterproof with charge cap closed. Been on suspension bottoming rides and never budged. Had to modify holder in order to accept charging plug.
