I see the Indians are producing reproduction Heinrich tanks

    I am not sure if the ones shown are supposed to fit airhead BMWs but they look quite a bit different to the Heinrich I have for mine, there doesn't appear to be a cutout for the electrics or mounting points.

    The tanks shown don't fit any Airheads that I know of. Maybe they have a different version for Airheads. Somebody could contact them and find out what the Hell they are talking about. I don't feel up to it. I was involved with the Chinese over a different issue and it took six months for them to get my answer straight. I told them "No". They apparently don't have No in their language. I should have known this. I was in Korea when I was in the Army. You can not ask the question in Korea because asking the question will imply you are buying and not buying from the man you ask is too much of an insult. So after you ask you must buy. See?

    Well they are Indian made tanks. The chances of them actually fitting any motorcycle ever made is pretty remote :lol3

    You folks can be real twisted w/ your comments. So:

    • Double standards: If you read some of your posts you'll see that plenty of grammar errors have been made. Yet you chastise the capability of others to converse in any said language.
    • Quality or design concerns: I owned a Saturn auto from when it was new. In less than 100K miles that vehicle was able to prove over and over again how unreliable it could be for daily use. It basically was a design disaster. Any Asian subcontinent vehicle was better than that Saturn.
    • Quality or design concerns: I owned numerous English made motorcycles. Reference the Saturn comments from above. The machines were fun, yet could be 'challenging' as daily runners.
    I'm sure you get the message by now from this post. :evil

    The tanks shown and described in the eBay auction could pan out to be real dumps. Though, at their selling price they could be very decent starts for a nice tank after some rework. Here in the states I find it very unlikely you find any panel beater that will get you anything close to that tank at that cost.

    It's one thing to fat thumb a keyboard or smart phone when you're larking about on the site. Those guys are advertising to an international market.

    Just for the record that's the first time I've heard of that manufacturer.

    The markets flooded with poor quality parts from India, especially in the Brit bike and Land Rover world. If you've been through the frustration and hassle of buying and trying to fit some of the rubbish that comes from there you may not be quite so sympathetic. And no this isn't a racist rant I'm quite aware that given the right environment seriously good quality production can come out of India....I just haven't seen any of it yet :lol3

    My Indian Enfield was actually pretty solid. Good paint, etc.

    It couldn't be that bad? Maybe would need a little DIY quality control, but not bad for the price.

    Those tanks can be made to fit ANY BMW or in fact ANY brand bike you want.
    Just might take a little more duct tape for some, but it can be done. :rofl

    The tank has similar styling to both the Hienrich and the Hoske. The mounting and underside of the tank is defiantly not post 70 BMW. Kind of cool someone is taking the effort to make an old school large gas tank.

    I've lived and travelled in India several times. I've toured both the Enfield and Globe plants. My technical background and cycling has it so I travel and have business in a global environment. I'm versed on who does what and how in an engineering capacity. So enough of the grandstanding by all the quality pundits.

    So... quality production out of your country. Mr. Matt and I ordered two piars of muffs and one set of head pipes from Keihan. They don't even make the head pipes in-house. They import them! The pair of muffs were a fixture and weld disaster. So much for old world craftmanship.

    So... quality production out of your country. My friend buys his wife a new Rover. She's driving along the expressway and the dash ignites and is in flames. Luckily the wife and children bail out before it gets worse. A call is made to the dealership for service and tow. The dealer said drive it in they'll review what could be wrong w/ it!

    So 'seriously good quality production' is open to discussion.

    Now, as per the quality of aftermarket tanks... Generally all my machines tend to have monster tanks. Usually always on the pre-70 twins. I've gone through lots of Heinrich and Hoske tanks. along with still using and having them in/on the fleet. For some time I've always favored the Hoske tanks, specifically the Sporttank and Rennsporttank I models. The Hoske tanks almost always have canted front mounting brackets, weird lid feature welds, bizarre rear sections near the seat bracket welds that are problematic, etc... It seems obvious that many of the posters here are not aware of the bizarro world of Hoske production.

    Figure it out, I'm not sympathetic to that many in this 'field' that offer products. The tanks they are offering in those auctions could be a waste of material. Then again they may be a decent buy. I'd prefer not to have mounting features on them. For doing a custom that is best left to the bike builder to sort out. I don't want anyone to get taken by buying junk. Hopefully their effort is going to supply some happy bike builders w/ monster reproductions.

    Rover is owned by an Indian company........ They seem to be doing very well at the moment, this was after Ford gave up on LandRover/Jaguar.

    All the keihan parts that I have used have fitted properly from the get go, and when I bought a well shagged second hand RT fitted with Keihan silencers, keihan replaced a cracked silencer without any problems, even though I could not prove that the silencer was within their 10 YEAR guarantee period.

    Bob Porecha, a /2 specialist from the UK imports Indian made tanks, the tanks are supplied unpainted and certainly look very good when finished. It probably really depends on who makes these tanks and I would agree that the final fitting and adjusting would need to be done at this end.

    When I rode various BMWs around the world in the late 70s and early 80s, I used standard BMW tanks, range was almost never a problem. Running those big tanks never seemed to me to be worthwhile, more about the farkle I reckon.

    The flame Rover was either a BMW or Ford owned version. I'm familiar w/ Tata and when they took over the helm of the company.

    It was nice that Keihan honored a warranty claim when they weren't obligated to do so for you. I'll purchase from a specialist supplier when it is feasible. My last purchase w/ them should be my last for their products. Mr. Matt managed the quality issues discussion w/ them and cc'd myself w/ the emails. Their attitude in the emails and the product is a show-stopper for me. I wish them well. At this time I prefer not to indulge in their business model.

    I believe that Bob is from India. He's been playing w/ the pre-70 BMW's for some time. It must be at least 30 years since I phoned him to discuss custom builds. He seemes to favor machines w/ monster tanks. I'm sure he is familiar w/ the quality of the tanks he is purchasing from India. Maybe someone can contact Bob and get some info on the tanks???

    Monster vs. standard size petrol tanks is probably a discussion for the large tanks thread. Lots of petrol w/ a sidecar rig can be very handy. My initial post to this thread was to address, what seemed to me, what was starting to be an Asian Subcontinent fiasco....

    I bought one of their metal tanks for my '65 BSA Spitfire Hornet. I had problems with the fiber glass on the original tanks coming apart even with it sealed inside. The new Indian metal tank fit perfectly. About the only problem I had was I have no idea what screw thread pattern they are using. I had a machine shop re thread the fuel tap and it works fine.
