There are powerplants at all stations in Antarctica. Cat Diesels. Part of my job at South Pole & Palmer, along with everyone at the station, was to make sure those powerplants were happily humming. They stop, it gets cold. Quick. Especially at Pole.

Woke to gentle rain this morning. Mowing the grass can wait. Don't have to water as many plants either. SWMBO is at the Triumph Rally in NE GA. I am sure she had a wet night in the tent.

That's her tribe. Mine? Air cooled twins. It's in my DNA after 300,000 and I have nothing to prove anymore, though I do love my 1000 mile sorties every couple months...

Left SanJoseBMW almost 2 years ago. Under GOOD TERMS. (Not like I usually leave a job:lol3)
The last 2 years I've been scratching out a living without the fallback of a "job" and it's been...................
AWESOME! Making only a fifth of what I did as a full time BMW parts manager/supervisor.
Living down here in the Mojave and not drinking or smoking any longer, financially, it's quite do-able.
No real STRESS anymore. That's priceless.
Congrats and enjoy! Call me when you're on your way on the cross country road trip you know you wanna do.

Got the confirmation call yesterday; IT position at big hospital. 4 times the salary, 1/3 the hours of auto schlepping.

18 June "orientation". Wiz test on 13 June.

Gathering of the Clans 20th this weekend.

4 days into this, I am starting to feel somewhat human again. :D

Thanks mate. I am happily riding more. I like it. Hospital wants to know what three vehicles I will be driving. Audi TT, R100RS, Das Beast. '66 BMW when we both feel like it.

Maybe I'll make enough to buy a new Aerostich. My current roadcrafter is over 22 years old.

I know a guy that swore off BMW motorcycles when they went to plastic fenders.

    Thanks all...

Off to a 12 Bones for some really great BBQ, then Rick Jones will be riding up from 'Bama... looking forward to seeing my old friend.

Tomorrow morning, off to the Gathering of the Clans.

F*ck all. I cranked up Das Beast today, and the @#@!#! lift I had on the bench came off. The toe on my right foot took the brunt of it. 6 hours in the ER in Asheville. 10 stitches to close it. One nurse, and only one, understood that I would be riding this weekend.

If you see me there, be very, very care of my feet. :eek1

No, not the bike. Das Beast sat pretty as a mongrel.

The jack stan rolled off the lift and nearly decapitated the toe beside my big toe. Surgical hit too. No big toe and all other toes were unaffected.

Hurts like mofo this morning too. Expected given the severity of it.

    Yeow!:huh

Ah, the old jackstand on the lift gig. Never have been bit by that before, but I've come close. I wonder how a longish ride on the bike will affect the stitched toe? Maybe a compression bandage around the affected extremity will help?

    Have a good ride.
