I am planning an IBA Pre-Approved Great Lakes 100 ride that will start on Thursday July 26th at the 76th Street Auto Truck Plaza just south of Grand Rapids and just west of US-131 Exit 75.

The route isn't the shortest possible route around all 5 Great Lakes, but I think this route will be more enjoyable. The route avoids the New York Thruway, Deer Alley, and the Buffalo area.

If you live along the route or closer to the route than Grand Rapids, you may be able to start & end nearer your home. Email me if you are interested in this option.

For more information, check out the ride webpage at : http://members.triton.net/vandenbe/GRTLKS80.html

EDIT : The ride is now on the IBA Event Calendar.

Hey Jim. I loved the IBR ss1000 you put on last year. I may be in for this one. I’ll watch the thread for sure.

Jim, 400 miles less and an additional 8 hours to complete than the Great Lakes SS3000 we did this year,,,, sounds like a joy ride. Now if you can arrange for less rain, pavement the entire route and a shorter wait time at the border crossing it for sure will be a joy ride. I have it on my calendar for next year.

Ya, it should really be a walk in the park and a lot of fun !! And it will count towards the Mile Eater Gold certificate. The route goes north of I-86 thru Ithaca and up to I-81, and then Watertown.

It was a big surprise when I heard about the 2 1/2 hour wait at the Thousand Island Bridge ! Who would have thought that would happen ?

But we will have an option for crossing the border :

I'll check the wait time on the two Friday mornings before the ride at the Thousand Island Bridge. If it's long, or if there is a long line when we get there, we can go over to Ogdensburg and cross there. That will save wait time, even if we need to turn around at the Thousand Island Bridge and go to Ogdensburg. The only problem at Ogdensburg is the entire bridge deck length is all grated. That's always fun on a motorcycle, but it's only a mile long. To detour from the Thousand Island Bridge or to go directly from Watertown to Ogdensburg will only take 10 minutes longer.

    Hmmm this looks very interesting
I sure like the pre approved , I have a bad habit of letting all my receipts sit in a envelope for a long time before I send them in .(3 at the moment) I went thru thousand islands in September and it was easy peasy 2 cars and my self. But that can change like the wind.. hope I can make this one .

You guys will have a blast! I did mine the first part of August of this year. I ended up hugging the lakes more on the North side, and nested a SS1600 from Kingston to Thunderbay. Adding the SS1600K made for quite the challenge and I'm not sure I would do it again. Your route will keep you out of all the Toronto "fun!"

I hope that you guys have the same experience that I did with the bridge - no line and 15 minutes at the border!
