I'm organizing another Lower Great Lakes SS1K for 2018 on July 21st. The ride will again start and end in Monroe, Michigan but we will be riding CW this time around Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

For the details, check out the ride webpage : 2018 Great Lakes SS1K

BTW, I changed the date for this ride from July 14th to July 21st because Ethan pointed out to me the 14 th conflicted with the BMW MOA next year.

After I do this ride, I then need to do another Great Lakes 100 to have done x2 all of the Great Lakes Series of Rides.

I have a 80 hour, 2,650 mile route for my next Great Lakes 100, ready to go. Maybe a week after this Lower Great Lakes ride, or later in 2018.

Count me in Jim. I need this one to complete the Great Lakes series of rides. And I might be interested in doing the Great Lakes 100 (again) with you as well.

Marked in my calendar! With the start/end close to home I might be able to get a couple first-timers from metro-Detroit to join.

I did the Lake Erie Loop back in 2015 (on my R1200R, not a sub 200cc) where I got bit by the long distance bug. This would be a nice “homecoming”.

I have traveled to Canada about 50 times in the last 3 years. I have always been asked for a passport, passport card, NEXXUS card, or enhanced drivers license. As far as I know, they stopped accepting birth certificates long ago.

    I could be wrong.

This is from the State Dept. website:

Entry into Canada: Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry both proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card, or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens.

That's what they want you to think. I have witnessed several Riders and passengers in the last few years use their birth certificate & driver's license. On an airline flight, the two document option won't work. But when driving a car or riding a motorcycle, it will work.

I personally talked to a US custom agent supervisor about the two document option after a custom officer at the same location told me a passport, enhanced drivers's license or Nexus card was required. Then the supervisor told me the two document option will work just fine - the custom agent was in error.

In my opinion, since Canada will let you enter with a birth certificate and driver's license ( proof of citizenship & identity ) , the US has to reciprocate. Otherwise, the US citizen would be stuck in Canada.

The next time you travel to Canada, along with your passport, take your birth certificate with you and give it a try.

I hope you all can make the ride, Will. It should be fun for your small group and you can help lead the way.

I am tentatively in for this ride. Hopefully my bride will be able to get off work for this one. We are planning a trip up to Inuvik in June, hopefully she can take off in July too. I have relayed this info to my Lake Superior riding buddy's too. We had a great time on that ride. If things work out we could have 4-5 Alaskans on the ride.

FYI - The IBA online store now offers a corresponding sticker for each of the individual Great Lakes rides.
