Adrian Musters from Huntsville, Ontario and myself are organizing an IBA SS1600K ride. Adrian has come up with a route that includes some great riding in Ontario and Quebec. The ride will start and end in Huntsville, Ontario which is located between Orilla and North Bay and will include a relaxing ferry ride across the Ottawa River and there will also be plenty of Tim Horton's to enjoy along the route.

If you have never been up that way before, give this ride some thought.

For more information check out the ride webpage : Ontario / Quebec SS1600K

I have family in Pickering just outside of Toronto. I hope I can sell this one to the wife as a "Family Visit"

I amped up my offroad experience. You can see my recent trip HERE. I should be good avoiding holes now.

Thanks for the link - Wow, what a trip and experience.

A lot of orange in some of those pics. But I didn't see any oxygen bottles at those elevations ! Good to have that ER Dr. around, just in case, eh ?

I will be introducing all riders of the SS1600K to iconic Canadian scenery and culture. This will be a great blend of scenic curvy roads through the the near north of Ontario and Quebec, past our Canadian capital city and finishing with super slab to get us home quickly in the dark. There are 24 hour Tim Hortons locations at every major turn. The route starts and ends in Muskoka, voted number one summer travel destination by National Geographic world wide! This is my home and I can arrange with anyone interested in showing up early or staying after the ride to do some more leisurely riding in the areas fabulous back roads. Come and enjoy great riding and some true Canadian hospitality.

Love reviewing the pre-approved rides you organize every year Jim. I did the Lake Huron ride a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, but didn't get bitten by the long distance bug (maybe because I don't have the right equipment). Since then I traded in my GS for a KLR, because I wanted better off pavement capability, making long distance super slab even less appealing. This route looks intriguing although I have covered about 1K of the 1.6K on two wheels multiple times, the 600K I haven't seen I want to ride.

Would you accept someone as a "tag along"? I understand that I need to keep pace, so the people I may ride with can make the time. I like the idea of having company at the gas stops during the short breaks.

BTW, hotels.com is already showing 62% booked for August 10, and they include hotels that are 45-60 minutes away from the meeting point.

    Smashley :

Sounds like a good plan, no problem. If you can, show up Friday for dinner and to socialize. You may want to take the tour with Adrian before or after the ride.

And BTW, I have had 3 KLR650 Riders do SS1K's in the past. Two did the Lake Michigan SS1K and one did the Lower Great Lakes SS1K.

Actually with all the two-lanes, this may be a good ride for a KLR. Just bring a liter of oil. The guy that did the Lower Great Lakes used about 3/4 quart of oil on the ride.

Thanks for the info about the motel situation. I'll add a note on the ride webpage.
