I am confused as to what exactly this bike is. :huh
Great photos, as always Herr Flug!
it appears to be an yamaha mx250 with different tank/fenders - motor looks like mx250 with the fins shaved off. or maybe it's mx360? top triple tree is 77 or so yamaha - but not mx.. it maybe? front wheel is not 73/74 - maybe 77 or so also..
It's got a watercooled head and a radiator. Doesn't look like a Yamaha. YZs with plastic tanks were monoshock.
yep, now i see the little radiator/head. looks like an early ktm 125 water cooled head. maybe there was an aftermarket watercooled head?
the frame etc is yamaha mx 1973/1975 (or possibly yz125a/yz250a). the tank is later monoshock yz. the yz125a and yz250a were twin shock, as were the mx125/175/250/360/500 until 1975.
it's a twin shock Yamaha with a period correct after market water cooled kit pre Bob Hannah's famous prototype. The cylinder and head are from different manufacturers, one of which was Noguchi. The gas tank is later 70's it's not the right tank but it's hard to argue with the bike was being ridden by the original owner at Unadilla VMX this past weekend and he's the one who installed the kit back when Nixon was president..
hardly an abortion it's somewhat unobtainable.
I figured an MX but I was really trying to figure what that motor was pieced together from. An interesting piece for sure.
