I am just about 20 minutes south of San Francisco, and looking for day trips/loops that avoid as many highways (i.e. 101/280) as possible. I'm looking for views, fire roads, mellow, hidden, etc. This would be the first time I would download GPS tracks to use with BaseCamp. Anyone have anything they can share por favor?

    Cheers!

For pavement, there are many great roads.
Check out Hwy 1, Hwy 35 (Skyline), Hwy 84 (La Honda Road), Skyline to Summit Road to Highland Rd. Hwy 236 through Big Basin. There are also numerous small roads that head up from Hwy 1 to Skyline between Half Moon Bay and Pescadero.
On the East Bay side there is another Skyline Rd, Grizzly Peak, Redwood Road, Pinehurst, Bear Creek Rd., Morgan Territory to Marsh Creek Rd, and then Mines Rd out of Livermore up and over Mt. Hamilton and dumping out in S.J.
Further south, there is Hwy 25, Nacimiento-Fergussen Rd., Hwy 1, Carmel Valley Rd., Stage Coach Rd.

Not many dirt roads anywhere near here. Have to head further out for that.

Morgan Territory Rd is closed due to a big chunk of the road sliding away. Pallomares Rd too. No date given for reopening either road but given what I have seen it is going to be a while.

I'm probably your neighbour - if not, I used to be (Petaluma, but used to be San Rafael).
