The engines are fine, it's the transmissions that suck.
How many hundreds of thousands of miles are you riding the damn thing?
Does'nt matter how many miles you ride, but that you ride at all, the first time my cousin's lightning munched second gear he only had 5k miles, the second time it happened to me whilst tootling through his neiborhood at 20mph...all in all I think he's been into the trans about 5 times and he's only got 40k miles on it.
I know of a few others with similar experiences on the tubers, the xb's seem to hold up a bit better but I think buell beefed up the gearbox on them.
I am speechless as well, cuase my mouth is full of VOMIT!
i sold this x-1 with 21,000+ miles on it and still shifted like it should. most gearbox failures are due to one thing period, abuse. redline+ shifts from first to second are brutal on transmissions. seems to be most prevalent on sport bikes, hmmm....
must fight righteously with utmost evil minds!
Like I said, failure rate seems pretty random, when it exploded on me I was shifting from first to second at just above idle with the use of the clutch because the gearbox is so clunky, as for all the other times I don't know but each and every time on the three bikes I know with trans rebuilds it was second gear that went every time, and they were all X-1's just like yours, aside from that and the battery's tendency to want to escape from their box or just dying I really do love the bike when it's working right because they are a blast to ride and just feel evil like riding a pissed off horse with parkinson's.
I know where this pic came from. Want to make a deal?
