If you are talking about me, yes I had one of the first 1999 Busas that was sold in my area. Amazing motorcycle. I finally traded it in for a 2002 RC51. That Hayabusa still is the most powerful bike I have ever owned. I had a GSXR-1000 but the Busa torque was impressive!

Sorry, and yes, I meant you. I still have my 99 copper. I was probably the first in my area.

I was up to about 10 bikes, but I'm now back down to 7, including a gen 2 busa.

Got a call from the dealer. No new immobilizer available until September:kboom

You want to know why KTM does not sell too many road bikes in the USA? Take a guess! First an unreliable part then parts delays. Duh!

Don't get me wrong. The 990 SMR is a fantastic bike when it is running.

As soon as I get it back in running condition from the shop I will trade it for something non KTM.

Will keep my 690 though. It is immobilizer free.

Currently leaning towards the GS1200. Reliability on those may be just as sketchy but at least I have a dealer close by and I think BMW may be a little better at getting parts.

It's my understanding that the 09+ maps will "look for" the immobilizer, plus I don't think tune ecu will even let you, otherwise you could just load an 08 map on your current ecu and be done with it. What you could do is copy and paste the cells from whatever map you want onto the 08 map...I hope this works. I might do the same thing just as a precaution if it does.

Thanks for the input. TuneECU has 2008 Super Duke maps so easy enough to get one of those and modify it. I am going to be so stoked if this works!

Downloaded a 2007-2008 SuperDuke map and pasted in all the numbers from my custom map from the 2010 ECU. Nothing to do now but wait for the 2008 ECU to arrive.

I am wondering if the immobilizer feature is separate from the maps and is something flashed into another part of memory on the ECU.

Uh-oh. Powercommander does not list a PCV for the 2008 superduke. Which probably means my PCV will not work with the 2008 ECU.

Up and down day! Checked out Superduke.net and found some posts that say the PCV works fine on the 2008 superduke. So maybe I am OK.....again.

There is no definite info out there, but that is the impression I got, i.e that there is an element on the maps/flash for a 2010 (or 2009? or whenever they started using the immobiliser) that seels the immobiliser signal. Hence if you load up a 2010 map you are fucked again. Strongly suggest you don't do that.

Hmm, I am not an expert just relaying what I did and what worked. I actually tried to also go "all the way" in 1 step by doing this (copying and padting all the 2010 tables over into a 2007 tuneECU map then loading that up) and got poor results. The bike started but ran like a dog, and I mean it was unrideable, wouldn't start properly without a load of throttle, really bad. It was the first time I had fooled with tuneECU maps so I figured maybe I had made an arse of it and would go back to it later.

So back to square 1 I went and just loaded up the std 2007/8 map from tuneECU. I have no knowledge of the other tuneboy etc stuff.

This has run so well ever since that I have left well alone. Now have over 25,000 kms on the bike since then. Rides great, good fuel mileage and as much performance as I need, as I said before maybe I don't have the full on 990R spec 115bhp, but I don't give a monkeys it seems to run really well and pulls strong as I need it to.

Hope you get sorted, pease report back on your experience, it all adds to the collective knowledge, and god knows we need it as the KTM network have been pretty much useless. Well at least they are consistent in different countries! :huh

Thanks for the suggestions. First I will try with the map already in the 2008 ECU, then if that does not work try the standard 2007-8 map, then try the 2007-8 modded map I made.

This is insane. NO immobilizers available until Sept?! :huh

And you're not even 100% sure that's the problem, right??

Holyshit, I'd be fit to be tied......

I'm lusting after the new 1190 but I've got to say, hearing this causes me to pause. I've got a GSA now and dealing with BMW is painful enough - I really don't want to take a step backwards!

I hope the "new" ECU fixes it for you - if not, is there a way to just rip all that electronic crap off the bike?? I'd be seriously thinking of a way to do that.

I feel for you....looks like you'll miss basically the entire riding season this year. :becca

Creeping progress. Got my 2008 Superduke ECU today. Dealer is open tomorrow but after a call, I found out my bike is still apart and service manager is reluctant to release the bike without talking to tech first. I can understand that, even though I do not like it. The last thing they want is some confusion then being accused of ruining my bike. So looks like Wed will be the first day I can work on it unless they are suddenly OK with tomorrow. All I want is for them to return the bike to me in perfect non-running condition! Ugghhh.....!

The bike does not want to start and after engine off/on again it starts normally ... until one day I guess it will not :(
