So I had my DR350 acting a bit strange tonight. Bike started up fine despite the cold with no issues and I rolled over to a buddies house. A few hours later when I went to leave again it wouldn't turn over and i realized I had left the gas on. It started to turn over but it would not crank at all. You could hear the starter kick in but no actually cranking. I figured the battery was wimping out from the cold so I went to push start it, ran down a hill, hopped on, and dumped the clutch in second gear. Didn't turn over and just skidded to a halt, tried 2 more times and same skidding and no turning over. I rocked it back and forth in gear and then the starter cranked it after that and it ran fine.
So what I'm guessing I did was hydro-locked it with fuel? Oil smells a bit gassy, so I'm gonna change the oil tomorrow, but I guess my main question is, full speed trying to push start a bike that's hydro-locked capable of doing any internal engine damage?

Sounds like a good time. I don't care about watching something with four wheels driving around in a circle for four hours but I would be down for hanging out if I had the day off. Now I just need to find something that needs worked on, anyone got a Harley I can barrow?

frank is busy today but sure he will chime in later. but yes.... that will roach a rod in a minute, especially by push starting! :huh odds are....you are ok since it is running fine.

my ol dr350 did same thing.... only worse. it had a puddle under it where was leaking from air box cover? :eek1 i hit starter one time and it went grrrrrr.... i stopped straight away! pulled plug and hit it again... shot fuel all the way cross barn! it had leaked into cylinder... backed up thru carb into air box and filled that till it leaked out outer cover!

i squirted some wd40 into cylinder and changed oil, drained air box and re oiled filter.

but the real culprit here was bad o rings in carb, and thats prolly your problem as well. you may wanna replace those. oh... and next time it don't crank... pull plug first to verify cylinder isn't full. :deal

From the pics that I seen it appeared to be really great condition. I'll be sure to get pics and post 'em up once I get the bike back to the store. I did talk to the seller and he even had the original title in hand :clap

+1 :thumb... about the only thing that I would add is to be SURE to ground out the spark plug (as far away from the plug hole as possible) after removing it from the cylinder and you begin to crank the bike over. If you don't, be sure to have a package of hot dogs & a long stick close by so you'll have something to munch on as your bike goes up in a fireball of flames from raw fuel spewing out and hitting that nice blue spark plug. Also, as TPar mentioned, raw fuel is gonna spray outta that cylinder a long ways. It may be best to do this outdoors. Once the cylinder is cranked dry, be sure to changed your oil & filter and then pull the carburetor and fix the initial problem that caused this whole mess in the first place.

99.9% of fuel related issues that I see multiple times on a daily basis results from the use of ethanol-ladened fuel that we're forced to buy in the country now. It's corrosive, it softens & eats rubber components, it's NOT fuel efficient, it draws moisture right out of the air & it's starts to go bad in as short of time as little as 30~45 days...oh, and the shortage of corn now being used to make worthless fuel to burn also leaves the food industry with an easy excuse for price increases across the board. (supply & demand) Unfortunately, the same stupid friggin' idiots in Washington that are trying to take the rest of our civil liberties in this country, thought it was a good idea to make gasoline from corn :eek1 Everyone knows, corn should be used for making whiskey!!

    Thanks for the responses everyone.
Yeah normally I don't think i would have immediately tried push starting but i was guessing the not turning over was due to the cold affecting the battery....live and learn I guess. Although I no longer have the vacuum petcock as I have the acerbis tank the left one may be leaking as there was some fuel around the outside of it today. Gonna hopefully do some fooling around with it today and see if I can solve some issues.

5 of us showed up for lunch today at Brownies. Good food, good fellowship. 2 of us were even on bikes :-)
Made it home ok, slightly warmer on the ride home (by a couple of degress) than going up there. Hope everyone made it home ok.

Well, I made it to B-ton today to pick up the '74 Honda MT250 Elsinore that my oldest brother found in Indianapolis on FleeBay. Not bad shape for a 39 year old bike really. I will tinker with it to get it running and then park it until he wanders out from upstate NY to pick it up and take it home to ride. Production date of the bike is 8/73, which makes it a '74. The bike also came with the original title dated 04/03/74 when the bike rolled off the showroom floor for $860.00 +tax. How cool is that??!? Neat stuff that brings back a ton of memories...

Didnt really run into anything I would call actual rain, but mother nature was spitting here and there. Nice ride home, when I got home it is 42'F on my outside thermometer. When I left this morning, it was 30'F. See you guys next week, hopefully.

Okay, I know this may not be motorcycle related, but it IS civil liberty related and I know pretty much everyone in here pretty much feels the same way concerning what's fixin' to happen in this country. Not sure if you guys (and gals) have heard anything about this so I wanted to pass it along just in case...

Local 2a Group: Hoosiers Walk for 2nd Amendment Rights

    National event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/406312512782872/

    When: Friday, Feb 8th
Time: 10a-12p (or until people decide to disband)
Where: South side of the Capitol building in Indianapolis
What: A peaceful gathering of Indiana's 2nd Amendment supporters.

Legal Details: (IANAL) We must stay to the public sidewalks (without blocking them) and obey the law (don't walk in the street; don't jam up crosswalks; don't block access to businesses; don't interfere with vehicular traffic etc). The Statehouse property is off limits to those possessing a firearm, LTCH or not. You do not need an Indiana LTCH to carry a long gun, however, it has been brought up that we may be in the vicinity of a Gun Free Zone. Knowing this, if you decide to carry a long gun, and do not possess an Indiana LTCH, you do so at your own risk.

    Event Details:
The Guns Across America event on Jan 19th went off with great success, but had minimal coverage from local media. Hopefully, this event will obtain greater success and greater attention since the Capitol Building will be occupied.

Taking a cue from the Jan 19th rally, we will not be marching, but will instead be having a simple rally and meeting at the same location. Bring your friends, families, neighbors, signs, and dress well and conduct yourself in a respectable manner. Help us let our voices be heard.

Attendees are encouraged to carry their firearms. You may choose to carry any legally owned firearm you wish and are properly licensed to carry. It is requested that all long guns be unloaded and slung in a safe direction (given that there are buildings of multiple floors adjacent to the rally point, muzzle down is preferred). Sidearms may be carried as you normally would (OC or CC) if properly licensed to do so. Please ensure they are in a safe condition and properly stored in a holster.

As representatives of the gun owner community being put in the spotlight, it will be IMPERATIVE for you to set a proper example of safe, law abiding gun owners. This is not the time to show off and pass around your firearms as the last thing we want is a negligent discharge and someone to end up in the hospital. That being said, appearance is everything. It is highly recommended to wear business casual, or better.

Also, please spell check your signs. [IMG]
