martinsville here, always lookin for someone to ride with,
I just got home from the Grassman DS ride in Ohio. I decided to check it out when Landon couldn't make it to Renfro. OMG, was it tough. The enduro guys were loving it. It was definitely the toughest ride I've ever attempted. I think I finished most of it except the grass trails at the end. I skipped those. I also left my spare gopro batteries in the car so I only got the first hour of so. I bet I fell over 20 times at least!
Where was this taken? How much of the route is like that?
I've been heading North and South from Terre Haute this year and I've found some nice areas but I'm always looking for more nice rides around Indy.
Amy and I went to a little motorcycle gathering today and had a helluva good ride with some fellow ADVer's.
I've been on group ride with (mostly) cruisers. Don't like 'em much. With a bunch of ADV'rs? Cool!
Slimey Crud Run in central Wisconsin. We're up visiting family and brought the bikes along. Our ADV group took all twistie back roads and steered clear of the 1,000+ other bikes. There was every kind of bike you can imagine though. Some really rare vintage tin and crazy ass bastard bikes too. It was awesome!
weather turned out great for saturday's 100+ mile ds ride. i didn't bring any cameras as i figured i was gonna be soaked at some point... or all day... either from rain or the never ending creek crossings.
i fouled a plug less than a mile from motel to start my day.. :huh dunno why, is what it is i suppose. i stuck a new one in and fired first kick but ran like shit in upper rpm range rest of day, but that was never an issue in woods, which was easily 80% of the ride if you did the advanced sections... which we did.
a slight 5 min drizzle after rider meeting that was followed by sunshine and blue skies and 80 degrees! which held out "almost" all day. round 6pm... or so the rain arrived, but i didn't really mind as i was hot/sweaty/muddy.. it actually felt pretty good, and even washed bike up some. at final advanced section the ride organizer was sittin there on his bike warning us of arrival of ranger in that area. he also said that section was easy and no real challenge, so we skipped it and headed for camp.
unfortunatley hilljak had a mechanical issue we could not resolve less than halfway thru ride and was about the toughest section. was a never ending singletrack, had uphills, off camber, down hill rocky... you name it. i think it was like... 20 miles long. it was alotta fun, but wes had 1st gear only from that point on. he made it out to road and about 5 miles of state rd to gas stop! that poor motorcycle ran that 5 mile stretch in low gear... the whole way!
i seen some people i knew from all over.... also... seeing how people managed the gas stops was... well, entertaining. :huh you had the poindexter group with their shiney bikes n gear bustin out the calculators and measuring cups... to the toothless good ol boys on thier clapped cr250's eyeballin the inside of their oil bottles and sayin... "thats just about right... less ride boys!".
i only had one real get off, but woulda much rather had several smaller ones, cuz it sucked. after wes had help en route i fired up and tagged along with a small group which had one guy that was a good bit slower than the rest. he eventually waved my by, which meant i was responsible for him now.. so every split on trail, i had to sit n wait. once he seen me... i was off to try and catch the others... then caught a freakin rock, next thing i know i am tumbling and rolling down the hill and smacked my leg on a stump. so glad i had my moto boots and leg guards on. while i am scratchin n clawin to climb back up hill... "harry" cathes up and says "you ok man?". i tell him to go ahead... but am thinking of something totally different to say to him. he bails at next road section, his buddies laugh about him being in over his head..... i think thats where i lost the top of my rain suit... my leg throbs from this point on. phuck you harry! :ddog
i ride with these blokes rest of day and have a pretty good time. one one section we musta crossed creek 20 times. one of the guys had an awesome talent for finding the biggest rocks in creek as he dumped prolly 10 times, his buddies found humor in that as they laughed and pointed every time. we skipped the last advanced section as ranger was having a look see and rain had started.
i pulled back in hotel round... i dunno.. 7pm i think, tired... leg throbbing and soaking wet...... totally worth it!
to you chumps that have not done renfro yet... you are missin out as it is fairly close to home.... i will be going back..
Your bike is smoking in video , more than mine.
I have never fouled a plug on any of my 2Ts.

Whats your mix and oil?
I hate to start an oil thread but 50/1 full syn works well for me.
yes, but umm..... you need to do more than start em once every few years.
