    Hi,

I just received a Roads and Recreation CD that I purchased from eBay. I'm using the Macintosh version of Basecamp. Can someone tell me how to install the maps from the CD so Basecamp can read them?

    Thanks!

That might not be possible, however I thought that you can view the maps in a new generation GPS with BaseCamp so that may be a solution.

One option; if your Mac will run Windows, Install MapSource with R & R maps and just use MapSource on the Mac for your needs. I have instructions of how to do this on my Web Site, DualSportWest.com but basically copy the complete R & R disc to a file on your hard drive, then install MapSource from the hard drive (not the disc), then update MapSource from http://gawisp.com/perry/mapsource/ to version 6.13.7.

You could then download all fo your area of interest to your new generation GPS and then see if BaseCamp will see it.

Thanks, Jerry. Since posting, I got to the point you're describing: MapSource running on Windows on my Mac and using the latest MapSource version. If I copy the maps to the GPS (via Windows), the Garmin MapInstall application says all the maps are unrecognized. Bummer...

Get access to a Windows machine (either physical or a VM running on Parallels or VMware Fusion) and run Garmin MapConverter for Windows to convert Roads & Recreation to a BaseCamp for OS X compatible gmap file.

Been there, done that... works great but needs the Windows machine

It works well. Once the file is converted, MapInstal, used to install maps, will work to put them on the device.

Thanks! That worked perfectly. R&R is now running in Basecamp perfectly.

Ok, this thread is several years old but I'm coming back to doing some trip planning and am wondering:

Do people still use Roads and Recreation? Or has it effectively been replaced by something else (either licensed or free)?
