I have a bike in Ireland with Irish registration in my name at an Irish address. I have a California driver's license, but no EU license. Every insurance agency I have contacted thus far has wanted a driving license from an EU country. Any suggestions for sources of liabillity insurance is appreciated.

    Here's the solution:
A Green Card from Polly at ww.motosapiens.org Check the website for a fun place to visit.

Email her at Motocampbg@yahoo.com for the best rates and service on Green Card insurance.

Disclaimer: I have no interest in Moto Camp, nor do I benefit from mentioning them, but I did get very good assistance from them.

278 euros for 1 month, but no good in Ireland or any eastern European country. That's not a solution.

    Ken,
You don't say whether your plan/ intent is to insure this bike "year-round" in Ireland, or just for a relatively short-term (01-11 mos) riding period.
If for a short term riding period, you can probably get minimum liability-only, so-called Euro "Green Card" insurance from
    http://knopftours.com/Web-Site/Green Card.html.

You may be able to get this "short-term" policy, then next time you're in
Ireland, check with Irish underwriters in person for "permanent" cover, or
even get yourself a second, Irish DL. Sometimes, showing up in person
    can make a difference.

I emailed Stepfan Knopf about this issue. He called me and explained the deal with insurance. I recommend him as a man who knows and who cares. 175 euros for 29 days.

Doug and Polly at Moto Camp in Bulgaria have said they will provide Green Card insurance - 60 euros for 29 days.
    http://motosapiens.org/moto/?q=en/node/17

Or get the full coverage for 278 euros. This is not going to happen.

FYI - Many European insurers insist on your doctor's statement of your good health if you are over 65. YMMV
