interest thread for KLR650 footpegs

    things are slow in the shop, and i've never been thrilled with the rubber oem pegs. tried a set of dr650 pegs on there but they were still too short for my tastes, and had a thin cross section that tended to eat the bottom of my boots. so i made what i wanted, and have them on my bike for testing. 2 other friends will also be testing them for me.

    these are 6061 aluminum, was on hand, but if there is interest for these, the material would be 7075 aluminum. the diamonds cut into the traction surface have an approximate 1/8" flat on top, depending on testing i might point these more, but i'm trying not to, to save boot soles. i like them on my bikes as is, though i havent been out in much mud yet. they are 2" wide x 4" long. you can see this pic (and others) in more detail here:

    from the initial run of three, data says ballpark price would be around $80 a set. they would be shinier and more nicely made than these betas. no anodize, but that would be a possibility if demand was there, guesstimate that at $15 a set.

    no production til we've had a chance to run the betas a while. thanks for looking and please comment! your interest or lack of it will determine if these come to be or not. i am also working on a "footpad" which will be 3" wide. that one will be offset to the rear to allow your boot to get under the shift lever.

    looks nice, but i can't tell if the platform is centered with the mounting lug or offset to the rear. offset would be prefered so there's no loss of clearance to the shift and brake levers.

    polish is not a concern, they're footpegs on a KLR.

    i'm guessing the red washer is to work like the rubber in the OEM pegs. a spring like the DR pegs would be better IMHO, and wouldn't let the pegs stay pointed up like they are in one pic.

    of course, all the KLRistas are cheap bastards, so the cheaper you can keep the price, the more you'll sell. :deal

    if they're offset i might get a pair to try. currently have DR650 pegs on three KLRs now. if they're offset and closer to $60 i'd probably get three pairs.

    Fixer, they are not offset at present, we are only testing them, that may happen depending on how they feel, would be easy to do. or maybe offer both styles.

    the red silicone washer does make the keg act like the oem klr peg, snaps into the up or down position. being an aluminum peg, to mill out the center to accept the steel spring would imho weaken it, and add cost. i will likely remain with this design initially, if there is enough interest for a spring style and i can figure how to do it without weakening the pivot point it may happen.

    klristas cheap? seems that way doesnt it? ive heard several comments as to $80 a set being too high, whilst the beemer and ktm folk gobble up fancy pegs and inserts for much more $$. at $80, i have already reduced shop rate 25%, there is a point i cant cross and still make it worthwhile, this is the point.

    the only change im contemplating so far is changing the length to around 4 3/8" from 4", might make them a lil long for the dirt bikers, but i am looking for a compromise that feels big, firm and easy to find under the feet.

    quite a few looks at this thread, damn few comments. without hearing from more people, i cant justify going ahead. probably an "ok lets build these" point would be around 10 to 15 pair. happy to hear any comments even negative. speak up inmates, pretend this is jo mamma.
