Planning, re planning, Scheduling, re-scheduling, conference calls with riders, e-mailing routes, discussing riding times and camping sites, voting for places to see... calculating budget expense,

again new dates to ride and meet,....

shizz... this seems like if I'm going to TDF or AK...

but not, only some 500 miles south of Reynosa. Only for 5 days.

Finally date and time is set.

Last minute change, I'm going alone from here, only my son and myself. Unfortunatelly my good friend Andres was not able to make it, neither Lucio. Will meet cousins and friends at the destination.

Wake up at 4:30 am, the bike is ready the day before.

my son is eager to ride, he is awake as well, getting dress.

Need to leave soon, wheather forecast says a huge heat wave will hit around noon at Cd Victoria and southern areas.

Soon we are getting out of the city...

Some sirens and police lights are audible/visible at the distance...

the usual.... some car accident, or some shootout... probably this not..

things are better now... I do not see any soldiers around, so things are calm then... I think.

soon the city is behind and get to customs.

Officers looks tired, is about shift change, I cross slow, the control light does not even turns neither green, neither red. I look sideways, no one pays attention to me and my son. Good, hit gas.

Only Pemex pickup trucks on the road, the first 100 km are full of gas wells and gas compression stations.

I ask my son if he is hugry yet, he says a little... (is only 6 am!!)

I tell him that we will stop at our favority Steak restaurant soon for som T-Bones.

After this words he is now getting really hungry... :lol3 he is a steaks eater, eats more than me now.... (:cry perhaps am I getting old??)

The first 100km from Reynosa, are a completely rectilinear road. But is not boring at this time of the morning.

Several smells gets to me as we pass for the ranchs and fields with the cropping activities starting early.

The smell of the morning dew, the mist, and the sight of the Aguililla hunting mice.

Is not boring at this time of the day.

As we passed some little shacks of food selling, my son points out at them,

is that one for the T-Bones?

    do not miss it dad!

    easy, is little more ahead.

so at last we get to Las Norias.

The restaurant is empty, but open.

My son looks at the grill and notice that is not on fire

    No charcoal burning!

    No T-Bones soon!

I ask the lady about and she says the grill is ready, but is not visible from we are standing, so here we go, two T-bones orders working now.!!

My son smiles with big relief...:rofl

This is what he was expecting...

We take a quck break before get to Cd. Victoria, fill the tank.

The hot weather is now on. we need to keep moving.

The mesh jackets are not cool enough as soon as you slow down.

The temperature is now at 89F, is only 8:30 am,

The heat index feels at 100F approx.

We keep riding and get up to XICOTENCATL, the hot air is blasting us.

we stop for a RASPADO, (brushed ice with fruit flavor poured in)

Is really refreshing. From here to Cd. Mante is only 20 miles or so.

We are now very close to CD. VALLES. our meeting place with the other riders.

my son picks a Pineaple flavor, I get Mango with chile.

    We must go on.

    finish our Raspado,

We start ridign to Cd. Mante. The air is getting hotter, I have not felt this hot on many time before, not even for Reynosa.

Passed thru Cd. Mante, and make a quick stop to take a pic of CUEVA DEL ABRA (Abra Cave).

We are riding smooth, 95 km/h. At least that indicates my GPS. The bike odometer got broken days ago.

I try to speed up but notice the bike is having hard time to go over 65 mph

I hear the motor pings when open the throttle. Probably is the weight, I'm 176 lb, my son is 99lb, the side and top cases are togheter easily other 80 pounds.

Or is it the heat? Did I mentioned the heat before?

Is very very, ... not, is extremely muggy and hot, that should be causing my bike no to be able run faster.

Cd. Valles is now 5 miles ahead, the temperature rises even more with the concret salbs and construction.

Need to stop soon to contact the other riders, need to know where are they.

I see a mall with trees and head there. My son jumps out of the bike taking his gear off fast and looking for shadow and water.

The water we have is warm.. no, no, .. is Hot.

He goes to get some cold bottle.

I call my contact rider and find out that they are 2 hrs away yet.
and we agree that no camping this day. ...Would be next ones?

My son ask me if I can get a hotel with a pool, he desperately wants to get into some water. I want a LITCHE Fresh Water (local fruit).

My Nephew on the phone ask me if possible get a hotel with a huge tv screen. He wants to watch the First Soccer game of the world cup. MEXICO!!!

Next step I call the hotels on my list and somehow I manage it to get the Internet room cost with no previous reservation. Even better I get buffet breakfast included, pool, and huge tv.

The cost of the room is 760 pesos with two queen size beds, we all will share rooms, so for me will be 380 pesos the night. Not bad at all.

Get to the hotel and while processing the rooms we all will need, the rooms are not ready to be occupied yet, my son asks if he can take a look of the pool, the lady tells me that he can use it in the mean time the rooms are ready,

I turn to tell him that he can get in if he wants,... I can barely see his back.... is off running to the pool.!!!:lol3

after finish the paperwork, I go to look over him

he yells.. get in! get in! is kinda cold !

that was not possible! you know, national sport,

    MEXICO VS SOUTH AFRICA

No rider wanted to miss the match camping on the mountain or booking into a hotel with no good tv signal.:doh

besides, the first places to ride and visit were on the Cd. Valles' backyard.

Try a little richer fuel mixture. Your engine relies greatly on fuel to cool it and if it's a little lean it will tend to overheat in those conditions.

I call again my cousin and he says they are still about 1.5 hr far from Cd. Valles, one bike had a flat tire and they are on it.

damn! I'm starving so I ask my son if he wants to wait for the others or get some food.

He's hungry as well, so we go for some quick lunch, at the corner, right out of the hotel.

    TORTAS !! MMM!

Arturo gets TORTA DE CHORIZO CON QUESO,

    I get TORTA DE PIERNA

It has been about 1 hr more or less since my last call, so I think the bunch is about to arrive. So we sit at the sidewalk tables.

    Arturo gets his TORTA,
and in a blink of an eye, the half is gone!! :lol3
    [IMG]

I get mine with everything, tomato, letucce, onion, cheese, you name it.

I'm about to finish mine, when Arturo is now on for his 2nd...! I think this kid will broke our meals budget...:lol3

He was finishing when he says, there! there they coming!!!

the rest arrives while I'm finishing my torta

I jump to the middle of the street to point out to them the hotel

we get back to the hotel, they all are as well suffering from the weather.

They want some seafood, beer and get into the pool.

While they unpack and get their rooms I take some pics before go out for more food.
