Hehe. Considering that house on a paved road with the same type of land would be easily worth $1.2m plus there...

So days are getting shorter, leaves are already starting to turn and summer is winding down. Fall temps are my favorite for riding. These last 2 years I have been riding 90% solo. Working 50-60 hour workweeks makes planned rides difficult. So I am gonna throw this date out there and if you can make it great, if not no worries. Weather allowing I plan a weekend in northeast Iowa. Planning to stay at Bloody Run campground just west of Marquette on Friday September 22nd and 23rd. Good riding in the area and also decent restaurants for breakfast and dinner. Campground is not very impressive but usually not overcrowded either. Open to Other campground options. For disclosure I will be riding my S10 @ 600 lbs loaded so gravel and level b is the best I can do. But Old Blue never lets me down when I want to wick it up on gravel :D... Hopefully I will get a chance to put a face to some of the gents who post on this forum. See ya on the road. Rethy

I will be in Rapid City next week. Unfortunately, I'll be working during the day. Trailering my bike out there. Would like to know some got to see places on the adventure bike. I'm new to the group. Would like to find some locals to ride with. I'm in West Des Moines and have a vstrom 1000 and a Victory Vision. Been riding for nearly 40 years if you count days on the farm.

I'll be in Iowa City Thursday-Monday (9/14-18) this week (For the Jingle Cross, World Cup of Cyclocross.) I should have Saturday free to do whatever and would like to go out on a ride on my Africa Twin. Looking for suggestions on routes. I would consider myself an advanced beginner/intermediate offroad rider so some off path routes are ok.

Well, crap, I was planning on heading to Rapid City on Saturday. Teaching a class there starting Monday. I could go Sunday, its only 12 hours away. I'm not familiar with the Iowa City area, other than Sutlif Bridge. A very cool old bar along the Cedar River not too far from Iowa City, we go there every year on the cruiser bikes. There is also a OHV park near Iowa City, never been there either, but I'm sure you need a DNR sticker to ride there. We could check out county maps for gravel and dirt roads at Iowadot.gov, so there's a couple of options.

As far as how many miles do I want to ride, depends on the day. I mostly go late afternoon or evenings on the gravel/dirt roads. However, I'm not against an all day affair, just depends on the day and if I'm here. I travel a fair amount of the time. When I'm home, my hired men typically can handle all my work, freeing me up for most days that I am here.

Probably looking for 100-200 "Adventure" miles. So 5-6 hours maybe? Pretty much locked in on Saturday.

Are you racing? I've done the Masters 55+ for the last several years, but my lack of training this year, says I don't need to throw the money away this year. Are you also going to the Trek world round? Much better riding in S.W. WI. Do you have a dirt bike? I know a good trail system, but it's dirt bike or trials bike only.

You could do to the Amana Colonies and look at old people. From there I could direct you to some big bike friendly water crossings if you'd like (see my post a few pages back). There is a sketchy-er road that's kind of fun by Mount Vernon (just up highway 1 from Iowa City) [IMG]

Abbe Hills Rd. North of town off of hwy 1. One section of it has/had a culvert that has seen better days, just be on the look out for that

This one is somewhere close to mt Vernon, though I'm not exactly sure where. I think maybe west town a little bit (I tend to get lost) [IMG]

Unsure if that one goes all the way through, was on my way to the IOWA rally and didn't want to bend up the bike too bad ( big ruts) before I got there.
