The announcement should start in ~20 min @ 1 EST. Time to nerd it up.
Wasn't that yesterday?
Well you can tell I'm not an apple fan boi
Watching the keynote now and it sounds like a critique from art school where someone is trying to put as many buzzwords as possible into their description....and the professor would call them out on it 9 times out of 10.
they clearly struggle without as strong of a leader as Jobs. A good friend of mine from grade school worked for them for a decade or so and where Jobs was a whip-cracker, he got results
Though I was hoping with Jobs gone, some of the stupid things would change.
For instance: when playing music on my iPhone, how about make the lock screen controls way bigger for easier use? Things like that.
Having an unlocked iPhone is awesome, though. In Chile, I paid $8 for a sim card, then $25 for 500mb of data, and a bunch of voice minutes. Way better than those AT&T bastards! And I had a strong signal everywhere I went (except the desert, but whatever).
for the 5s, spec bump, fingerprint authentication, and motion coprocessor. the motion coprocessor might enable some cool things, but otherwise, eh.
the 5c is basically the regular 5 moved to a cheaper (and more colorful) manufacturing process (using plastic instead of aluminum).
amen. I have Smart Talk here and pay $45 a month, unlimited everything. I have also heard other stories like your that make it very easy to travel with the iphone internationally.
"And iOS7 will be available unbelievably for free"
Well considering your rivals don't charge for updates why would this be a surprise?

OK I got to the iPhone 5c part....seriously guys are you a bunch of BFA drop outs?
Just found a graphic of the 5c VS the other mainstream phone which is all abotu customization the MotoX:
Apple has gotten very uppity in the last few years, doing things like requiring you to have an Apple ID account to do simple things like network the music that you already own. I hate that crap.
Nope still nothing that would make me want to get rid of my Blackberry Torch
You're like a black unicorn!
Yeah I know I just haven't found anything so far to make me want to change. Maybe if the Ubuntu phone really does come to life .... or if my company decides to buy a BB10 server I'll go to the Z30 or whatever they are going to call it.
I'm wondering if I should upgrade my 4s to iOS7?
I've been in the ios7 beta program. I would upgrade day 1.
The large change in the new phones is 64 bit processing. Less than 1% of people probably understand why that is a big deal.
The fingerprint scanner could revolutionize device security, if it is much better than what has been implemented before. Those laptop scanners suck.
But IIRC only the 5s is a 64 bit processor so John's 4s and my 4-ish iPod touch wont see a gain from that.
John I didn't see any killer must have features though admittedly my iOS device is just for development so YMMV. But read up on it and if there's no gotta have's for you wait 1-3 weeks that way all the bugs will be found and major apps that have an issue with the new OS should be updated.
I've been an Apple fanboi for years. I still like their products and have many around the house and at work. My contract was up with Verizon enabling me to purchase my next phone. I just picked up the Moto X because it's made in Texas. Okay, it's really just assembled in Texas, but at least someone is trying to bring manufacturing back to the USA. Android is different and for some people like my wife I would never suggest that she make the switch.
Apple had better step it up.
i'll bite- why's it a big deal?
They should have nixed that IMO. We have 4 disgruntled iphone owners today at work. At most, none cared about fingerprint except to say F That. The biggest complaint was the lack of metal casing on the 5c. They won't buy plastic.
Several Android devices came out with fingerprint scanners and I don't think people really liked them all too much. The old Moto Atrix etc. I've not tried it myself to see the difference, but all things the same I would prefer to swipe a finger along the edge rather than smoosh a finger onto the face. Apple's fingerprint sensor design doesn't look very one hand friendly.
