I've read that some successfully use their iphone as their GPS. I like using it in the car with MotionX GPS(Iphone 4s). I use it in a Bike Logic case to track my route and mileage on the mountain bike. But that is only after the ride is over when I can find some shade to view it. How are people using it in the sun on the motorcycle? I thought that maybe mounting it upright behind the windshield instead of laying on my hadlebar might improve viewing. Any insight or suggestions? Thanks.

I use my iphone 4 as a gps all the time in the car without issues. I tried using it on the bike but with the small screen and sun glare, ended up buying a dedicated gps unit. Other ideas? :ear...

down where the speedometer would normally be seems to be a really good place. it's protected from falls and shaded (depending on the bike) somewhat. most of the guys i ride with just use a ram mount upright, or put it on a bar pad.

I've used a smartphone as a motorcycle GPS for a very long time. I use a RAM mount and keep the phone fairly vertical in the line of sight between my eyes and the speedometer. So the reflection from the screen is my chest, basically.

If I put it lower, then it needs angled up, and glare from the bright sky can become a problem. For me, the higher the better, because you can angle it down.

I use an iPhone 7+ on a handlebar-mounted RAM mount. I keep the phone plugged into the bike's charging port, so it's always on and charged. The phone is water resistant (not submersible but I have driven through every imaginable level of rain storm without issue--it's also protected a bit being behind the windshield) so I don't even have to screw around with waterproof cases that always seem to render a phone unreadable and hard to use. The phone itself is easy to read in sunlight , and maps.me has never failed me, in any country that I have used it in. My old Garmin Zumo mount looks lonely.

With any iPhone - be sure you turn the "brightness" ALL the way up. That, and playing a little with the screen angle, you should be able to see in the middle of the day. RAM mount on the handle bar is generally the best position, not flat, like in a tank bag. Plus, being in a tank bag, you may.... run the problem over overheating it. Mine is in a LifeProof Nuud case, mounted into a SlipGrip cradle on a RAM arm. It has never overheated.
