i just love the ims and i'd love to see a(n indy car) race on that course.

great seating and good view. f1 was (almost) always a blast. except that one year. you know the one.

i quit watching the sonoma race. just terrible with all the yellows. maybe pick it up tomorrow. it's like they all did 3 shots before launch.

So let me get this straight.

IndyCar gives race leader (and title hopeful) Scott Dixon a stop-and-go because a Penske competitor deliberately strayed into his path on pit box exit and he hit him. The penalty came late and wrecked Dixon's race.

IndyCar (Derrick Walker) strongly defend a penalty that may have ruined Dixon's chances at the title.

Come Baltimore, and Derrick Walker has, surprise, surprise, added a new rule to the book. One of the things it says is that no crew member may obstruct another car in the pits.

So it was Scott Dixon's fault, but since then IndyCar has seen a need to make a new rule penalizing anyone who obstructs a car in the pits?

    Got it. Amateurs.

    1. that was a terrible call. the crew member was carrying the tire off to his side and showed no awareness nor urgency regarding his surroundings.

    2. indycar absolutely needs to design and mark pit boxes so there is no question where the car is to be; tires, tools and people, and clear paths of egress.

    3. the new rule is practically a necessity now, since unfortunate precedent has been set.

There's a very good chance he was doing it on purpose. At the top of the Baltimore broadcast, they showed clips form previous races. When the car in the next pitbox was a teammate, the right rear tire changer made sure he was out of the way. When it was a competitor, the right rear tire changer was a lot more deliberate about clearing a path for the exiting car.

What's baffling is that in a pre-race interview in Baltimore, Derrick Walker admitted that teams play games in the pits. Yet despite knowing that, he dinged Dixon and potentially ruined his season. Amateurs.

Baltimore produces an event filled race. Helluva final 10 laps. On the other hand, those guys are just too crashy. Turn 1 is hard, but not that hard.

Delighted for Sarah Fisher that her driver got second. Scott Dixon boned again, Will Power just drives right into him and shoves him into the wall.

I hope Baltimore continues as a venue. I know it had big problems in the past. But it can produce pretty intense action. I hope it made enough money this year to keep everyone happy and willing to sign a new contract.

Montoya signs with Penske for Indycar.

Now we'll see if he has anything left.

Since 2005? Same number as Montoya.

I'm not sure that driving ability is the reason for the hire. My guess is that Montoya's ethnicity makes him more appealing to some sponsors, although I may be wrong.

Good grief, Dario is a fortunate guy, all considered. I texted a friend moments afterward that I was concerned that he'd not walk again, and thank goodness I was wrong. That tub must be hella stout.

Sato seemed like a deer in the headlights in the interview...not entirely his fault perhaps, but still, with his track record...

Terrible wreck, really high speeds. I saw a tire bounding through the air untethered, apparently going over the fence. If it had landed in the stands, dead people I fear.

the new tub seems extremely safe. as a sato fan, i was yelling at it until i saw the replay. i really can't pin that on him.

no question, they need to move the spectators away from the outside of the turns. even though that type of wreck is rare, when it happens it's bad.

Good old Sato made sure they once again didn't get a clean standing start the first time around. He pulled into the wrong slot. :lol3

they need to do more standing starts so they get some experience. they're terrible.

of course, the flying starts aren't that great either.

Anyone watch the finale at Fontana? It reminded me why I like oval racing and miss it. But that flying axle also reminded me why it's so dangerous.

I was surprised to hear that Andretti is switching to Honda engines. I wonder why? Gansassi wins the title with Honda but is switching to Chevy. I guess Honda made Andretti a great deal to become their flagship team?

I'm sorry that Dario Franchitti is calling it a career.

I was a big fan back when he was winning. The last couple of seasons either he lost his edge or his motivation. I can't shake the feeling the medical advice he got was all the nudge he needed to get out.
