In SA, as well as WA, NT, and Qld, you can ride a 50cc scooter on a car licence. In every state except WA (I think), that 50cc scooter is limited to 50km/hr top speed. In WA it's limited to 60 instead.

Some scooter riders think they don't need proper protective clothing - just like leather vest/T-shirt/ordinary jeans wearing Harley riders, and those sport bike riders I've seen in singlet and thongs; even Croc shoes! It's their skin, so it's up to them. They obviously trust car drivers more than I do. I'm not their mother, so I don't give a shit.

Andfoot, I bought a pair of draggin jeans when the company was just starting out. Be buggered if I can wear them out (was hoping to so I could update to a newer more fashionable design).

To be fair, I have replaced the zipper, but they have been given a comprehensive workout (including a fairly major "off" in which I slid along the ashphalt).:rofl

Tar marks only and even those are beginning to fade with succesive washings.:huh

I'm suprised that Draggin haven't gone out of business due to lack of repeat custom from tight arses like myself who can't wear out their product.:clap

To be pedantic, SVG, in SA you can ride any 2- or 3- wheeled motor vehicle of less than 50cc and not capable of more than 50kph on any licence. In other words, it doesn't have to be a scooter, and it doesn't have to be a car licence.

Anyway, those who doubt scooters can be adventure bikes should check out Gary Farqhuar's ride from Korea to Italy via Siberia on his Suzuki Burgman.

+1 also...i've had mine for 3 or 4 years and wear them everyday for the commute to work - plus other riding occasions and they're still going ok.

If they can handle a slide down the road then they can handle a bit of wearing and washing

Is a Vespa still an adventure bike when it's got a Piaggio badge and is built in the Zongshen factory?

    Which model Vespa?

Remember, Piaggio also make plastic bodied scooters which aren't badged as Vespas. So it may still be an adventure "bike", but is it a Vespa?

Like "To Bee or not to Bee", a Wasp or not a Wasp.

As SVG says, there are a number of Piaggio models which are a hybrid of the Vespa engine & transmission suspended in a tubular steel frame and telescopic forks, and covered with cheap-to-replace plastic panels. These scooters are about half the price of the Vespa equivalents. What price the Brand name, eh?

My Vespa is long since sold....I decided it wasn't really an adventure bike. Got what I paid for it though, they hold their value well.
