I think you are confusing me with the original poster Pedro. He's the one who went. Never meant to "butt in", I only wanted to have the name of the place corrected from "Pozo Azul" to "Poza Azul" so that you and everyone else could find it. Salud :)

So is Poza Azul the main aquifer source for the river?

Yup. Here's the main body of the Rio Mezquites where most pix of swimmers were taken:

    26.916376, -102.104635

I like the idea of hiring a local guide in order to see everything and to put a little
    money into the local economy.

Ah thanks. So are those cabins to rent for the night or can you camp? Sure looks like alot of structures along there.

Thanks, I will take notes and use latter. My plans flip and I came to San Blas. Not a good time to be in SB. Flooding, Skeeters, little narco action and counter action by the navy. It use to be a nice town.

San Blas has had some hard times in the last two months. Off limits to US consulate employees for about a month. When the Mexican Navy shows up, there´s your sign.

Just checking if anyone is around Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta right now. I'm planning to ride down in the next coming days and curious what the weather is like right now.

Rain all day or not at all or just in afternoon etc.

I am in Guadalajara in my way to Zacatecas for the Motorrad Federación Rally there ( not an official BMW event so every brand is welcome despite most riders show in Bavarian bikes) long story, but used to live in PV for 34 years, so I am familiar with the weather, and the forecast for the next days shows daily scattered thunderstorms, which are a good show if coming from the ocean as usual, as a matter of fact some people enjoy watching them on a nice restaurant/bar with a view, there are plenty along the beach or in the hills, and it is hot also.

I'm in Mazatlan now, the last few days a little bit of thunder and lightning show and light rain every night, sunny and HOT & humid everyday.
it's been a couple weeks since we've had any big gully washers come through, some of the roads are a little messed up from the big rains but OK to ride.

@brasscycle came through here and stayed over last night. One of the nicest ‘08 KLR’s I’ve seen and one of the best-prepared riders, too.
He’ll cross at Colombia Bridge later today en route to Panama.

We are planning a trip in November and I'm looking for a place to stay in or near (walking distance) el centro histórico de Zacatecas. We need a place with secure parking for 6 bikes. Something similar to the Posada San Agustin in Durango would be nice.
    Any suggestions?

You cannot swim in any of the Pozas. You can swim at Rio Mezquite. It's very close to the Poza Azul. Poza Azul is not the source of the river. Poza Azul is thermal. Rio Mezquite is cold water where an undeground river breaks the surface. Go to the map that was linked above and you will see "Rio Mezquite," then double-click.

Get Sjoerd's book for recommendations. Zacatecas is a cultural mecca.

If he were to ride from Cuatrociengas to Parras, then he should swim in one of the spring-fed pools. This is the best one. How I love Parras! Don't give away all of our secrets eakins and jimmex! :D CIMG1970-721708528-O.jpg

I have his book but the version I have is a little sparse for Zacatecas. The proprietor of one place has passed away and the other place listed is not where I want to be.
Parras is on the route too, but I think I'll try to stay at Hostal El Farol there.
