I was also looking at those remote towns to the west wondering who goes there?
And can you connect those from the East.
Remote country for sure. I figured that was drug country and stay away.

How about connecting farther west to the mtn towns in Chihuahua? That possible?

My little subgroup included Burt Gunn, who was about 75 at the time. I remember worrying about him when the thunderstorms set in, and then realizing that he was completely fine with whatever we would encounter. Also remember crossing washes just ahead of the flash flood and looking back to see it rush through just behind me. That was probably the funnest trip I've ever done down there.

Old Burt-------he's still kickin------probably 87 years or so----maybe more-----he can barely see now. I don't think he is able to ride.

I had a conversation with a gentleman on a ride I did in Baja who had ridden through
a considerable portion of the area North of Yecora to the border . He is a first language
Spanish speaker and I would judge him to be a very street smart man .
He was looking for his grandmothers grave and had an encounter with the enforcers
of the local plaza boss . All turned out fine but that just shows they will know who is in
    their turf .
He basically said if you don't have the plaza boss's OK don't ride through the area .
So do any of you vato's know someone who know's someone ? :chace

    Burt Gunn. MiValeMadre.

We bunked together riding CC in 2011. Our first encounter was in Creel when he layed over the
seat of his DR650 to tilt it and lube the chain. Asked him if he needed a hand. "Nope. Got it." Well,
he sure did. Later when he led our little group through the Urique River he found a deep waller
approaching the east bank and went in running. No one even asked if he needed a hand undrowning
    his bike. And he didn't.

Burt turned 80 later that year.

Burt is wearing the Minnesota Twins sweatshirt in this picture. This is at the Chabochis rally in Creel in 2007, at the old KOA there. Burt, I and one other guy had just finished the Creel-Batopilas-urique-Creel loop, and were pretty dusty faced.[IMG]

My nephew and I rode CC with Burt, both sons and Chabon in 2013, had a ball. I hope all is well with Burt and family, looking forward to another ride sometime. Vaya con Dios.

So with all this talk about permits, has anyone done it lately? My bike is financed and I want to go to Oaxacas BMW Convention next year through baja and would hate not to be able to do it. ¡Gracias!

Just contact your finance company and get a permission letter for the period with that you can get a TVIP.

    Hey Everyone,
I have ridden with...I'm still around and riding some. Rode from Yuma to Coco's 2 weeks ago. I have macular degeneration bad, but still hanging in. Brad and I are taking a trip to Baja sometime this month.

Not much off road riding, as picking a line is hard. Glad to see everyone is still out and riding.

    Ride safe....Burt

Hope I run across you, I am planning on a Baja trip this month as well with Loreto as a end point but if I feel up to it I may run to La Paz and ferry over to the mainland for the heck of it.
