Funny, there's been a couple of major university studies on MSM that both found no conservative news sources to exist at all and only 2 "moderate" sources: Fox News and Drudge Report.

I think Don Henley summed it up pretty well.

"I make my living off the Evening News
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
    They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
    Give us dirty laundry

    Kick 'em when they're up
    Kick 'em when they're down
    Kick 'em when they're up
    Kick 'em when they're down
    Kick 'em when they're up
    Kick 'em when they're down
    Kick 'em when they're up
    Kick 'em all around

    We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
    Comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam
    In her eye
    It's interesting when people die-
    Give us dirty laundry
    Can we film the operation?
    Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
    Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
    We need dirty laundry

You don't really need to find out what's going on
You don't really want to know just how far it's gone
    Just leave well enough love
    Eat your dirty laundry

    Kick 'em when they're up
    Kick 'em when they're down
    Kick 'em when they're up
    Kick 'em when they're down

    Kick 'em when they're up
    Kick 'em when they're down
    Kick 'em when they're stiff
    Kick 'em all around

    Dirty little secrets
    Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody's pie
We love to cut you down to size
    We love dirty laundry

    We can do "The Innuendo"
    We can dance and sing
When it's said and done we haven't told you a thing
We all know that Crap is King
    Give us dirty laundry!"

Amigo, I don't want to go political, and I disagree about certain networks being "fair and balanced." :evil

With that said, the cartels do these increasingly crazy murders in an effort to get attention, and the non-Mexican media fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Cartel violence has replaced the bus plunge and ferry flip as a good lead on a slow day.

Unfortunately, the words you used "increasingly crazy murders" are true and they have people like me, who love Mexico and her people, re-thinking about travel in Mexico. We can probably all agree that Mexico gets too much attention from the media, but if we are open minded, we can also all see exactly what you pointed out.

Very true. Did you see the news about the lady in Nuevo Laredo being be-headed?

Here's a thought; Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are old news that we're tired of; Mexico, relatively speaking is new news, is closer, and more relateable for most Americans. Sooo, lets lead with a story about Mexico.

    Some food for thought:

During the weekend before the body dump in Boca del Rio there were 67 homicides reported in NY City. 67 vs. 35. And the 35 deaths in BdR were likely single-cause homicides involving 2 criminal orgs.

Now I don't have specific knowledge of the deaths in NY City other than they were not a single incident. Therefore the diversity of individuals involved, of causes and locales make it potentially much harder to identify the risks and avoid them compared to the drug violence in Mexico.

    Just my dos centavos.

Well the countries you've listed are at the mooment rather quiet compared to Mexico. Mexico's war is creating more casualties than anywhere else. I can't think of any other country at the moment that has truckloads of tortured dead people being dumped on the freeway, men and women, or another country that has internet users being executed and beheaded for posting on the internet. Mexico is number one right now because it has the most active war with the most casualties. I'm continually surprised at the "poor picked on Mexico" attitude on this thread, you aren't being picked on, you're earning the attention by having the sickest crazy war violence currently on the planet. Maybe you'll get lucky and the Israel/Palestine thing will heat up, or the Taliban will do something, until then Mexico is Numero Uno. Not because everyone hates you, but because Mexico is currently the most violent place with the most sick crazy stuff going on, that's boys and girls is news........And yeah, since Mexico borders the U.S., it's a huge American tourist destination, lots of U.S. companies are there and we are connected by the drug trade, uh yeah, it might make the news due to those factors too.

In reality, when I watch my nightly news I rarely hear anything about Mexico, but everyday I get news from Mexican sources on the interent about the daily violence that is never reported here on TV. I'd say it''s under reported.

I'm sure this will generate some flames from the usual suspects, but the truth is the truth, at least I'm not posting from inside Mexico, that could be fatal at the moment.:eek1

    New York Times reports:

Police data shows that 52 shootings from Friday through Monday claimed 67 victims around the city, resulting in 13 deaths, in a spike of gunplay that has alarmed the Bloomberg administration even though the number of citywide shootings this year, through Sunday, is down 2 percent compared with the same period in 2010.

Geezer, the drug cartels, gang violence and organized crime is a problem for travellers no matter what country you are travelling in. Mexico has it problems, for sure, but it's not that much different that what you would find in any large America city. Have you seen the slums in Philly, they are not much different that those you find in any third world county and i wouldn't want to drive a bike through there and leave it parked overnight on the street.

There are places in the states that i feel less safe than any place in Mexico, how often do you hear " i ride with a gun for protection" yikes:huh i don't ride with any weapons while in Mexico and have never felt that i needed to. What we don't hear through the media is the whole story, we get a 15 second snippet on violence that has occurred in an entire country. Will the stories of violence stop me from riding to Mexico.... no.. will i be more vigilant, yes. So ... PV in October, Baja in November, somewhere in January, back to the Baja in February.:clap:clap:clap

Yeah that's true, in this article it shows the stats on New York crime: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2...-new-york-city-but-remain-near-historic-lows/

    Same pattern everywhere.......

Why the hell would I ride to the slums of Philly!!!!! haha I usually ride to nice places, I don't pick the worst. :lol3

I have lots of guns, I don't ride with them, even on trips. Some Americans feel the need to do that, it's part of our culture and a certain fear mongered segment of our society. But if I did plan a ride to the slums of Philly or a night ride thru Compton, I might carry one of them, heheh.

I also don't want to "ride" thru NYC. I'd like to see it, probably take cabs and such. But a friend of mine and his wife flew out and rented a bike last year and rode NYC and the surrounding areas. They said it was pretty cool, a bit chaotic traffic-wise, but they enjoyed it. And my sister and her daughter just did a 2 week tourist trip to NYC and enjoyed it. None of these people went to the slums so I figure that's why they survived.:D

    Enjoy your trips...

And now to our next news story about the criminal activity from both aisles of Congress.
