Yesterday, while I was filling the 1150 with gas I realized maybe I was putting myself in a bad situation. I usually dont even get off my bike. While filling, I'm leaning over the tank, peering down the hole so I can shut it down before I have gas all over my bike. Then I realized that my iPhone is right by my head, mounted on a RAM mount about a foot above the gas tank. Am I crazy for doing this???? Could an explosion happen?

Extraordinarily unlikely. iPhones don't spark. For that one in a billion chance, they tell you not to use your cell while fueling, but it is really a one in a billion chance.

Feuling while sitting on the bike is much more dangerous than your iPone getting gas on it.

Not an issue at all. Nor is sitting on your bike while refueling.

Someone had a loose cap on their trail bike. Their new nickname is "Fire Balls". No fire, but a good splash of 91 in the crotch. :eek1

Overflow/fire!

I'm not a Chicken Little, and you are more than welcome to do what you wish, but I will never fuel a bike sitting on it.

So, I guess this begs the question; can your movement while sitting on a bike generate a static electric discharge?

This will kill you with the same certainty as using a "clip" type master link, or a 21’ tube in a 18’ tire! BEWARE :deal

While it is not common, an overflowing gas tank will often drop gas onto hot exhaust. Again not common, but that gas can ignite and follow the trail right back to the tank, and your wet crotch as well.

Static is the enemy.
Stay on the bike. No issue.
Get off the bike, walk around, and you create the static charge.

Static is not the ONLY issue! Unless you feel that a crotch full of flamable liquid is not an issue.:lol3
