Perhaps I have been influenced to become more risk averse, but this thread has directly contributed to my purchase of some riding pants; well, this thread and those photos from Hell for Leather. Having always been 'all the gear' except for pants which I never really knew how to buy, it's kinda nice to feel the big pads on top of my knee caps. And I figure that patch of skin I sit on every day is probably worth a couple hundred bucks to me. I'm just trying to keep my eye out for gear that seems robust without making me look like a power ranger.

What are folks' solutions for those who ride every day? How about ride to work?

Over pants with a zip out liner for all weathers. Full or 3/4 length leg zippers, knee, hip and tailbone pads. Dress the way you want underneath. Almost all manufacturers have a model that would suit your needs. I tried mine on my cement garage floor when I got them. I dropped onto my knees and didn't feel a thing! I weigh 230 and believe me, I would NOT have done that w/o knee pads. Imagine hitting the pavement, even while going slow, what kind of 'hurt' that would cause w/o knee protection.
