That is awesome! I was a Paramedic for 15 years and had a KLR that started life that color! Love it! have always liked the ambulance/adventure rig conversions.

Nice, a little ways back I saw a red KLR parked next to a fire truck on Craig's List. Can't remember the town though.

I would if my bike finally gets here.
Getting a bit impatient, ship arrived in New York mid August, but still no eta from Schumacher.

    I can borrow my wife's FZ6 but I prefer my XTZ750

So my "nephew" (exwife's nephew?) bought a KTM, unbeknown to me. I get texted a pic of it on Thursday and by Saturday morning I am repairing a busted radiator hose on it... lol

He wants to make it a SuMo, I'm trying to make him an Adventure rider.... took him on my Reservoir Gravel Loop this afternoon and he did okay for his first gravel ride!

    Hey guys,

I hope I'm not breaking any rules as I am new here, but I have a few questions to ask some local Jackson area riders (and hopefully local BMW folks).

I've got a 2013 BMW 1600GTL (long story as to how I acquired it), and it is giving me some trouble. I wasn't able to ride much this summer, and when I got back on the bike, it would choke down in 2nd and almost act as though it was in a limp mode. I was able to limp home (since I didn't get far). Once home, I revved the motor a little to see what it would do, and it revved then died once it got back to idle. With the closest dealer in Baton Rouge, I was hoping to fix it myself or have someone local take a look at it. Any recommendations of someone local? If not, any tips on finding a service manual or something to help get me started?

Thanks in advance for any responses, and if I broke a rule or something, I apologize. I will do my best to fix my mistake!

Congratulations on the new bike! You're certainly not breaking any rules and reaching out to forums is really the best place to start when you have a question about your bike. But you may find there are better forums to consult for tech questions for a K1600GTL. Just Google "BMW K1600GTL forums" and I'm sure you will find plenty of places with people who know more about those particular bikes; more than you will likely find on Advrider. Most of the BMW guys on Advrider are likely more familiar with the specifics of the GS bikes. At least I am. I know nothing about K bikes. Though some guys swing both ways. ;-)

That said, your specific problem is likely more basic. You say you acquired the bike some time back, weren't able to ride much this summer, and now it's dying on you. That leads me to believe that fuel has been in there for many months at this point. First thing I would do is drain the fuel and refill with fresh, high octane, non-ethanol fuel. I would also add some Stabl or your favorite fuel stabilizer to this tank and again each time you're going to store it for longer than a month or so. Your symptoms just sound like bad fuel to me. If that doesn't do it, then you can start troubleshooting other mechanical issues (and that's when you probably want to talk to guys who really know the ins and outs of K bikes).

Good luck! Hope you enjoy the bike.

The last advice was more than likely spot on. Old fuel will give you a lot of grief. However, like Knightwork said if you need more words of wisdom just ask.
Where are you from? There are several on here from MS and in fact several in our little club ride the K16

    I'm in Clinton.

I'm going to give the fuel a try and see how it does.

Thanks again for the quick reply!

Dang! Great price. Just a heads up to the locals (to me in MS that is) that my 2016 orange RX3 will be up for sale soon. About 2k miles on it. Runs like a champ. Pm me for price and details or a test ride! I’ll put it in the classified section here in the next few weeks.
