The GS ride is part of the BMW Club's Winter Rally they hold out of Camp Blanding, which is January 18-20. The GS ride is on that Saturday the 19th. It is an all day ride for those adventurous types with GS's. The Rally itself is already sold out (mainly because the military base limits the number of people on base to 550). However the GS ride is open to everyone and has been lead by Bill for the last dozen years or so. He is not even signed up for the Rally if that gives you a hint on the open nature of the ride. We will meet up outside the base, just down the road in Penny Farms about 9:30am. If you are still around, this would be a great ride for your 990 or 950, I can't remember what you said you had?

Anyway, we will have many that join the ride that are not a part of the Rally. We will also have many types of bikes and brands from 250 up to the 1200 GS.

    Cheers

Thank you for taking photos Bill and thank you to Rich for uploading them.
I STRONGLY recommend against using street tires unless somebody here looks forward to painful things such as passing kidney stones, giving yourself paper cuts, or regularly picking up your motorcycle for example :loco. I had to tap out after lunch as I strained my right leg from planting it to avoid crashing or some may say I got some sand in my vagina while extending my leg ... :doh
Please plan ahead by bringing plenty of water as you will get dehydrated quickly even with cooler temperatures in Florida winter. (thanks for the H2O Bill)
My right leg is still numb ... see you CADS members at the Wednesday night meeting?

Easy for me to say cause my junk came with 2 sets - silly little street tires and some unused knobs. Guessin you don't have a 2nd set?

Sorry about the short notice on this one but we're doing a practice run of the GS ride tomorrow (New Year's Day). It'll take most of the day. We're meeting up in Penney Farms at a little before 10am and leaving from there. Corner of SR16 and Clark Rd., you can't miss it. It'll be fun, come on out.

Well I have entered the darkside and ventured into a smaller DS..........damn a DR650 much easier and more fun to ride in the woods than the Big Fat Pig......so after all of my trash talking I thinking I am leaving the Beemer at the house and bringing the DR up to play in a few weeks.....maybe I can keep up with Bill this time!!! See you guys in 2 1/2 weeks!

Just because you can ride a big bike where a small bike goes doesn't mean its as fun. I enjoy my DR350 in the woods WAY more than my old KLR 650.

so much truth in that statement!!!! I spent the afternoon yesterday getting acquianted with my new toy......so much more fun in the mud and on the trails. Also much easier to pick up and point in the right direction when it decides to take a nap!!!

Good choice my man, we did the pre-ride today and even though conditions were quite good, the appointed test pig struggled in one or two places. Those place won't be a deal breaker but you'll be happier on the DR. Yeah Rich, he took one for the team today. :evil

The fact is for this one weekend guys travel from all over on big bikes to the rally, it's all they've got. A few have started showing up with smaller stuff on trailers but most'll be on pigs. They know what to expect by now. :D

Should be a preview coming along shortly.

OK so it is January 1st 2013 in Florida. Temps near 80 degrees had this guy sweating like a pig at a ham festival :D.

Don't worry though on the day of the GS ride I am sure temps will be near freezing :evil

OK, so we had our Hungarian friend join us for the ride today and he tells us a Hungarian Joke. Why is this Dakar Rally Bike parked next to the dumpster?.... Because that is where it belongs :lol3 :lol3 :lol3

Actually John has a thread in here about his build of the cool Rally Fairing, it had me fooled :D

So we gathered at the starting point for the BMW NEF GS ride in a couple of weeks. Our goal was to try and get some timing down on using the new routes that Bill has been trying to work into this years ride. Soooooo...they needed a Guinea pig err I mean Guinea GS :D Bill asked someone to step forward and I swear, I did not move. Everyone else must have stepped back. :huh

    So we are off

We are soon on the dirt

We have had a good bit of rain in this area lately and roads are hard packed :1drink

Ok maybe a little too much

    Nice stuff

    Everyone enjoying New Years Day

OK so we come to a rather large water hole......:eek1

Now why do you think these guys are stopping here...Yes they know something fun is about to happen :rofl

    Guinea is going down

    well pigs do love mud

well at least the new titanium found a soft spot to play. It actually looks pretty clean in pictures :D

    Ok Guinea, ready for more?

    Guineas next test[IMG]

OK got to get over this tree, yes pop the front wheel over ....

    And then

Nothing, I was beached like a tub on a sand bar. My skid plate landed on the log and I was going no where

Ok mental note..need a solution for that hurdle..which we did figure out :evil

    Back to the good stuff

So, the morning ride until lunch is primo, I think an RT could handle it. Except for a couple of Guinea moments..piece of cake :evil

After lunch.. this is where I need to mention that as we had south into Ocala National Forest I heard this girl screaming...what the heck???

Once my heart rate came down a little I realized that girl screaming was me :lol3

I know what you are thinking..this is getting boring..so Bill was able to work in a little Florida Snow :clap
    :lol3

I do not know how much comment this needs :D

I swear I can still hear a girl screaming...

Well I did get them to stop calling me Guinea...now they call me dog paddle :rofl I said that's Mr, Dog Paddle

Well The GS ride is shaping up to be a great time. Really nice pictures Bill :clap

What time is the meeting? I do not have a dirt machine...yet. The pig has road tires, so I will not be out for a ride for a few months. I would like to meet some of you FF's. Maybe I can get some advise on dirt riding.

The meeting's at 7. You don't need a dirtbike, or even dirt tires, and there'll likely be plenty of advice. Whether it's correct or not is up for debate.:rofl

Yes, I know it's confusing, bear with us a bit. :D
