I am considering doing that for one day that weekend. I have not ridden out there since purchasing my v-strom. I do not have knobbies on it yet, never ridden it in dirt, and quite frankly nervous about riding some of the sandy areas out there that I would even struggle on a dirt bike with (like some of those sand washes).

I thought it might be a good opportunity to take the bike out, ride some of the conservative roads I am familiar with that are not too bad just to get a feel for the bike and make it a one day thing. I have relatives that will be out there as well, but they do they do the Rhino and buggy thing.

I might be up for a loop or maybe exploring the boulder garden some more.

I "virtually" mapped a route from the texas quarry area to the lava flows, then over towards calico and back for one of the days. And maybe we can head west up to big bear and mess around up there on another day.

no routes completely set in stone....i think we will keep our options open, see who shows up, and decide the day of, depending on what everyone wants to do. I'm open for anything.

riceless -- i'll keep you posted as we get closer to that weekend.

    Ben,

What bike are you talking about? 950 or 450? I'm still looking at my options for that weekend so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

    Hey Errin,

I'll be on the 950 and Lindsay will be on the 450. As we get closer to the date, i'll be posting detailed maps where we will be camped, so people can come out to camp with us, or use our camp as a base for day rides. Either way, should be a good time!

    Cheers,
    Ben

You guy need to be awaire that there will be a 500mile MORE race based off of Bessimer Mine that week end. The race starts at 1400 (2pm) on the 24th and wil go thorugh the night. We're talking class 1 buggys etc.

Here's a map of the course:

Strong Bad -- thanks for the warning. i'll update this thread with an alternate location as soon as one is confirmed. Hopefully we can find something in the general area, that wont be in the way of the race. I'm flexible and open for suggestions.

From the race map it looks like either Cougar Butte or Means dry lake are clear of the course. One will be upwind, the other will be downwind. It usually blows from the west. I also noticed the racecourse is a figure-8. The intersection is most likely the primo spectator spot.:kurt :kurt :kurt :kurt :kurt :kurt

I just wanted you guys to know about the race, not really a warning. If I wasn't racing a USDR race over at Red Mountain, I'd be chasing a class 1 car in Lucerne. If I were you guys, I'd take the chance to go spectate! Go ride around and find intersecting roads and watch from different spots. Its a 500 mile race you'l have lots of time.

Strong Bad....again thanks for the heads up. appreciate it!!!

As some of these posters know, shifting work schedules have really impeded into my riding schedule, so it looks like i'm only available that Sat/Sun. But i'd still like to meet somewhere in that general Lucerne/Johnson/Cougar area. I'll b more and more attentive to this thread as the date draws near and listening to all the suggestions/options.

power to the people and all that.

Not sure which day, but I will be riding up there from Temecula for just one day of goofing around and visit a relative that has a cabin off of Old Woman Springs Road. I will be the guy on a Strom, with street tires, who has trouble in sand even on a real dirt bike (yes, that guy). Could be the day from hell, but looking forward to the challenge.

Hoping to find some easy roads that I can handle for when I switch over to knobbies soon.

I'm not quite sure where cougar buttes is, so I'll just follow Riceless per usual.
