For those of you who've met young Son, he's offloaded the lil WRX. He's allowed to get a 650-700cc dual sport. No KLR's, thanks. He has his heart set on a KTM or Ducati. Budget will allow for a used ride. Hes picky and its his dough. If anyone knows of a garage queen looking for a new owner, pass da word.

Hes willing to DS a motard. He already has a 250 off road bike so uber suspension isnt required. Something he can keep up with me n Mud on but take gravel if needed.

Hmmm... I have a KTM 690SMC that's in xlnt condition. I believe it's an '08 w/ like, jack for miles. Goes like hellfire and stink. What kind of range you figure junior's looking at?

There was one for a day or two on CL that had 3-4x the miles on it for $7k about a month or so back. I told a friend of a friend that he could have this one for $6.5 but he had some kind of personal need tugging at him at the time.

It's the orange one about four or five in...

Here's an example of a different 690 in nut bar mode complete with an unhappy ending that may seem curiously familiar. My grandma could mount up faster than this guy and could probably come up with a more impressive sneer. Fast forward to about the two minute mark:

Major league agile and top drawer. It's hard to imagine outgrowing this one quickly. :1drink

As far as being able to keep up and not get too stretched out off pavement this might give you an idea of what it's like. It's a younger man's bike but it should be a young man with some discretion.

I've got too many bikes and this one can be cut from the stable.

Can't forget Cycle World's test of the 690SMC. Probably not mom approved.

as long as you've got a cush drive the hard part's done.

(edit: I've got two KTM 600 class sumo's and there will be one in the stable for a good while. they're the sports cars of the bike world. turn quick & fast, stop really hard, stand up in a heartbeat; on road, off road, no matter).

You might look into the Husqvarna Terra. The Motorcycle Shop is getting a couple in that are sold, and they might come up as available to order as we get further into the season. Brand new bike with warranty for less than the cost of most used high performance 650's. ($6-7,000 depending on promo's).

    Legion,
#1 - Neither Jr nor his sweet Mom need to see ANY of the above videos for painfully obvious reasons! :huh

#2 - That durn AKMud has already got both of us trying to figuurr out how to wheelie. Thankfully neither one of us is very fond of doing them as evidenced by above video. (I thought for sure homey in the tunnel was gonna eat it in front of the semi....!)

    #3 - PM sent regarding bike #4 :evil :D

Thanks Andrew but Jr has a special fondness for all things orange. (THANKS D2D) It's $$ he earned on his own efforts so I can only say "Honda Ruckus" so many times before he turns off dad. We're familiar with Husky's from Baja, so it ain't like it's a bad bike, but he just ain't feeling it.

I remember when I was a kid the chance to pick a selection from the devil's own toy box never was an option. I had fun on bikes but never in my wildest dreams did it ever occur to me that I might be able to have something really REALLY cool by any standard.

Today though I met a young man that apparently worked his ass off and saved his heart out. That young man snagged a dream today.

Be safe, bud. I definitely don't want your Pop rubbing a knot on me for peddling that bike to you. :1drink

Word has it you're out in the front yard giving her a bath after trotting her through the filth on the test drive. Treat 'er right and she'll be singing you lullabies at stop lights and screaming when you spank 'er for years to come. :thumb

On a side note... never tell any of these horndogs what you paid for it. It's always better to keep them guessing! :lol3

    My pleasure, Marbee! Truly!

Don't let me forget... if that quarter turn throttle wasn't in the bag of tricks then it's back on my shelf somewhere and I'll scrounge it up. The re-cam'd throttle tube that's on it might be a better choice anyway though.
