Just a simple getoff on the trail

    Steep and rocky for sure, i probably would've fallen off too, lol

    i was waiting to see you get back on the bike and get up there, did you guys go up or back down?

    Glad you weren't banged up!

    First thing I thought when I saw your hands moving to break your fall was busted collar bone or shoulder separation.

    I've been riding (mostly) on & off road for years, breaking the fall is still my first reaction.

    How to change that?

    When you fall forward the ideal way to avoid injury is tuck the chin and roll over a shoulder leading with your arm. Make the shape of a letter "C". Tough to do in all the gear, on that terrain with a bike between your legs.

    Don't try to stop the fall but try to dissipate the energy through your arm, shoulder, back, hips and legs as your roll. Hench the "C" shape. In all the martial arts training I have done, learning how to fall has been the skill that saved my ass many, many times.

    Either way... falling still hurts.

    Hard to tell, but it looked like you picked a bad line for a TW200.
    Not a lot of ground clearance or suspension travel.
    Airing down the tires a lot also helps a lot with the ride and traction.

    The TW will go up or through almost anything, but you have to avoid the boulders!

    I think a little more speed would have been helpful as well.

    Normally I'm a "try, try again" kind of guy, but that day I was in no mood. We turned back and tried another route.

    The funny thing is, in my mind I had perfectly executed the tuck and roll. It was only when I looked back at the video that I saw I'd planted my hands like that. Derp.

    Oops. Old thread. Lol. Would Love to revisit chiva south some time there, Ben. Your roll looks awful similar to mine going down that hill near the falls :)

    Back in 1979, had a car turn left in front of me. I hit the rear quarter panel and flew over the top of the car. With all my dirt bike and racing experience, I knew to do the "tuck and roll" as the pavement quickly approached. It worked, as it always had done in the past. Kinda like being a gymnast. Putting a arm out to brace for impact, expect to wear a plaster brace and/or a sling for a while..tuck and roll folks!

    Outcome of the collision. Broke my Rt leg, but the rest of me was okay :thumb

    My thoughts as well, but i have done what he did many times. TW does not have much suspension travel and those rock faces sticking up pretty good, might have been a bottoming out ride up that hill.
    Hard to see coming around the corner but that sandy strip next to the brush would have been the best on a TW. Coming up it is easy to fixate on those nasty rocks and miss a smooth sandy line to the left, been there and done that.

    I wuz thinkin' go left, too. Also, more speed. I've been there/here, have the bent clutch lever to prove it. Learned that momentum is your friend, even though that's counterintuitive. Let the suspension do it's thing.
