He appears to still be moving. Approaching Utah. No internet out there.

Might be heading to Monticello. I should tell him about the great steak restaurant just north of there. coords: 37.98342,-109.354839

Spoke with him about noon.... He wasn't far from Utah..... Sounds like the road was kicking his ass but he was in good spirits....

I didnt think a full dressed CB550 was the proper bike, but then, who am I do have an opinion on what the proper bike is for anything........

Damn Doug, you are one crazy fucker. I can't believe some of the shit you come up with. :lol3 There is a road (?) not far from the Ork store, that we did a couple of years ago while staying in Clarksville, that was a complete blast, but I'm pretty sure the hack wouldn't have made it, even w you at the controls. We did a bit of the TAT on that trip, some was quite boring.
    Carry on you crazy diamond.

Weds. night I see a notice about a mc aution in the 205 area.
I look it up and it's B-ham accually Tuscaloosa , some guy is going through a D-I-V-O-R-C-E and is forced to sell off his toys.
    42 motorcycles , 41 are 2002 to 2012 models.
The guy liked Ducati 11 of them.MV Augusta 4, H-D 11 , also 1 Goldwing and 4 Runes one Rune had 503 miles the other 3 had 0.Also a few Jap crotch rockets and track bikes.
    Whew !
I bought a '04 Road King Classic and as I was driveing back north , not having slept the night before, began imagining my own Harley. Thin fenders so as not to trap mud, a skid plate, because not all roads are paved, etc.
I started to hate that R.K. behind me . all chrome and shine and fuxing white walls ! Not me.
But after a good nights sleep the R.K. looks pretty damn good again.

You're hauling our imaginations with you ! Tell them to get out and push if you need help .

How much would 3 more inches of ground clearance changed your trip ?

Day 16 I got a room at the Circle R motel. Nice folks, & TAT friendly. Make sure to ask for the 'cash discount' :) I met Lex, who has a welding shop, I came up with a couple ideas to stiffen the mounts, & so far its been working ok. I thought about some round stock going over the top, but the problem there is that the fender needs to be a little sppreadable to get it over the mounting bolts. [IMG] [IMG] I enjoyed a break day in Salida, ran into a few guys from ADV, washed some clothes, and the fireworks that were postponed from the 4th of july due to a fire ban. Also had dinner with Duke & Tammy at a pretty cool local place with lotsa weird stuff on the menu. I took off the next day & hit Marshal Pass, it was pretty easy. I got to the top, thinking I had done something, and met Kelsey, who is riding her bicycle on the continental divide trail from Canada to Mexico [IMG] I got to the town of Sargents, it was mid afternoon, but I didnt know what the road would be like to Lake City, or if I would get there by dark. They have cheap cabins here, & I shared one with Kelsey when she showed up, and another guy on the CDT named Mike. [IMG] sights around town, except for the ford trucks, it reminded me of the small towns in Siberia. [IMG] [IMG] well, in Siberia, all of the rabbits would have been eaten.... [IMG] lots of mining memorabilia everywhere [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] sunset [IMG]

    DAY 17

The ride over to Lake City wasnt to bad. The problem with the maps is you dont know the condition of the road until you are on it.

and it can change. really fast, with no warning.

the peak in the distance is 14k feet hi. Which seemed really tall, until I realized I'd been 1500 feet

higher in the Pamir mountians in Tajikistan on the Dirtster

Lake City is nice, Duke had told me about Ravens Rest hostel, so I spent the night there.

Lucky who runs it is a really nice guy, and we had a good time BS'ing.

At the Hostel, under the sign, you can see Cody the dog with a ball, waiting for me to throw it again.

If you stay there, you have to throw the ball. Its Cody's rule.
