I may be in N California riding then, one of these years
I've tried to get him and a few others to come down with me. I may have one coming.
are you looking just for pavement or gravel and pavement? I can plot you a nice route if you'd like.... or just show ya.
Appreciate the offer, wife is just warming up to dirt, she rides a F650GS, which is a good thing because i am on a GS now too, and did a lot of dirt on my Boxer Cup, and explore even more now!
I know most of the paved stuff, in fact showed some friends from Charlotte that ride up that way 20-30 times a year, Revere and Lonseome Mtn, Crabteree, Beaver Dam and few others, and they still cannot believe a Yankee found roads they did not know about. Also introduced them, and me, to PawPaw, Big pine, Bear creek and the little roads in that area this year.
Maybe we can meet for a cup of coffee, of bite to eat at the Hippie cafe in Marshall, or the diner in Hot Springs, we can take a picture of Pie and send it to Mario, (Mark) so he drools all over the mail the rest of the day
I only drool over pie served with ice cream.
Thanks for all the info about WNC and East TN.
Nice to meet you the other day (I assume that was you in Hot Springs).
And yes, I should have posted a disclaimer about what types of bikes are best for the Grapevine road. I bet you gave the guys on the Harley's a workout
Yes, that was me in Hot Springs. I found your tractor.
Great views from the top of the mountain.
finally got a couple of days off, and with my luck it fell on kennyanc's birthday party
perfect reason to take the long there:
wtf happened to the summer??? :huh
anybody remember this house??? pic from 2011
I ended up with the same pics form 2 years ago
at Waldrop's Store
At Kenny's Birthday bash: great folks, great food, and great music.... and some adult beverages
the birthday boy!!!!
the rest should not be posted public....
_anatic accompanied me for a while on the way back
thanks Shane for tagging along!!!
could somebody move this for me up to our spot????
Looks like you are heading N on beaverdam
When I met Clearnerman a few weeks ago, he talked about riding the Grapevine with a Goldwing followed by Harley's... so, as a public service announcement I decided to show the current condition of the the Grapvine
first off, it should be called KUDZU - not Grapevine
and second: the cones are there for a reason - obey the cones
at least the ones that did not fell down already
on other spots the cones just indicate one thing: the Kudzu won... :huh
it's a bike lane
at this point they just gave up posting anything (it's only about 50 ft - sorry guys)
but don't worry there is still some pavement left - just a bit broken off (doesn't show very well in the pic)
but the northern side (towards Big Laurel) is in perfect condition
so, you be "warned" - personally I love the road, it's a Madison County style dual sport road
and the last pic (not Grapevine): less than a mile to go
BINGO! you are really good for a Yankee
It was a fun little detour back home. Should have stayed with you a bit longer, I came out in the same spot on 63.
First time I rode Beaverdam I was riding half blind, I scratched my cornea and was beating feet back to the car and trailer in Meadows of Dan. Sheer agony tears swirling around in the helmet. Much more fun when you have depth of field and can see more than a few hundred feet ahead.
As for a Yankee, I am a map geek and Google maps junkie. I have a bunch of friends from NC that are corner nuts and ride 30-60K/ year, and i introduced them to Revere, and Lonesome, along with Crabtree, Hookers gap and a few others. This year took them up Big pine and Bear creek. They still shake their head that it took a Yankee to show them the roads.
As far as Grapevine, it will be great if they ever decide to repave it.
Wife and i are coming to play in a couple weeks, we will likely do more exploring.
Waldrup's store? Where is that, Sandy Mush?
yup - Waldrop's on Willow Creek (other side of Beaverdam Rd)
I've never done much riding in that part of the county. Just looking at G Maps it looks nice, but can't find Beaverdam Rd. on it. Maps takes me to the one in N Asheville.
Maybe it's time to go exploring.
Beaverdam goes north from Canton towards the store... nice twisties!
I was looking in the wrong county. duhhh.
