Here's a gathering of photos .... man-made objects found in my travels throughout Kansas on my KLR650 and KLX250. Instead of killing bandwidth with scores of image loads, this Flash Player does a much better job ...

I also put this rascal up in the "Upcoming Events" section ... the Kansas "Flint Hills Stampede" is coming in June, 2010. You might want to see for yourself ...

Hope you enjoy ..... Best, Wind Sprinter

Great presentation. It just amazes me the large amount of abandon homes and buildings through out the west. Thanks for sharing.

    Great job Wind Sprinter,

Nice tunes and photos. You just lay back and watch the show. And then replay and watch again!

I appreciate the effort you put into this production.

Thanks for the show. When I lived in Kansas I spent a lot of time documenting the old barns. Great stuff

    Thanks for the feedback!

I ran my stills through iMovie, added a "Ken Burns" motion effect, then exported the QuickTime file to Flash and containerized it into a custom player.

Have also done a longer version which includes many, many more landscape shots. The acoustic soundtrack on this one was performed by a lifelong friend.

    Hi Roger,

It's been awhile since I slept on your couch :D
That was a really nice weekend I spent with you guys.

Thanks for the video----really neat---helps us all get thru the winter and cold.

I keep compiling all the neat out of the way places and historic places in Kansas in my gps----another ride out there is due for me--I love the big open prairies.

I just ran across this picture of me and you on that old bridge--good times:D

Hey Mark .... Happy New Year to you! That was a great ride weekend ... we really covered some miles and scenery! Remember the "friendly" tarantula?

Hope we get a chance to do it again ....

Nice job! Kansas isn't often on a lot of "dream trip" lists since it just has this sort of flat/boring/meh stigma attached to it for whatever reason, but if you take time to get off the Interstate and explore, there are a lot of interesting things in the midwest, and a lot of history most of the population will never even see.

Curious - where was that last picture in the top video taken, of the white tall building on the creek?

    Mr. Pirate;

Are all of those bikes operable riders? That is quite a collection!

That shot is of an old mill on the Cottonwood River, in the near-ghost town of Cedar Point in the Flint Hills. Location: just off of US Hwy-50, between Newton and Emporia. The paddle is kept inside the building, but the mill is in a near state of collapse, as you can tell from the photo.

Thanks for taking the time to put the videos together. What great shots! I love the one of the sunflower field and the one with bikes going down the long road by the wind mills.

Thanks for info on how you did the video. Will have to try that.

Appreciate the feedback drklr! The photo you mentioned of the bikes riding past the wind farm was one I took for a story that appeared in RoadRUNNER magazine, June 2008 issue. One of many great rides with the Backroads Touring - Kansas group.

Great photo viewing Roger. Looking forward to riding with you and others at the Kansas "Flint Hills Stampede". Perhaps "Little Dog" can ride along with Mark "BigDog" Sampson and film a documentary called "Little Dog on the Prairie".

    "Little Dog On The Priaire"

That is great---I'm still grinning on that one :D ----and I'll do it.
    thanks Thunderdog !!!

I have a classic rock band---I'm BigDog of course on lead guitar--Bass player is BassDog---lead singer "LeadDog"----Drummer is "CrazyDog"-----and our sound man is "HoundDog". Sure is a lot of dogs runnin' roun'.

In the mean time-----I talked to WindSprinter and I have been accumulating waypoints in Kansas for years of interesting stuff that all you Kansas fellas have probably been to----I've just been to some.

I have over 120 right now of old bridges--stone arches--springs--waterfalls--historic things----neat little cafe's---ghost towns---worlds biggest ball of twine, lonely dirt roads---good riding areas-------etc. YOu get the idea.

I'm soliciting help from maybe Ajayhawk fan and others to add to this waypoint file ----and send me stuff and I'll put it all together and share it.

Maybe someone has already done this ??? Then I won't have to do nothing.

Anyway-if you have something to add send it to

bigdogg@wildblue.net By the way I don't do maps---just gps data.

    thanks !!!

ThunderDog would enjoy runnin' roun' with you "dogs" too. :ricky I could ride "back door" to ensure the "Little Dog" doesn't get blown over by those Kansas Prairie winds while posing for pictures .

    Nice video, Roger.

I need to get back down that direction for a ride this year - it's unfortunate that our company gettogether has been scheduled on Stampede weekend the last few years. :cry
