A friend offered me a 800 Drifter with 7000 miles for a price way to good to pass on. I always liked those and rode one once owned by another friend who insisted I ride it as he thought the bike rode really nice. He was right that thing was pretty sweet in power, handling, ergo's etc.

so now I own an 800 Drifter with fringes on the seat. :super

Sweet. It is bound to become a collector's item like the Ducati Indiana.

    And handle bar tassels?

Great all around engine. A lot quicker than the Honda 750's were.

Got the ex the 800 Classic and 800 Vulcan a few years back. The Classic with the 16" front was a lot better handling bike.

    Enjoy

    Congrats, nice bike. What color?

Always like the fact that they did something other than the typical cruiser look.

It's resemblance to another older marque is no coincidence of course, but they did it well.

    Good luck with it!

I like the 800 Drifter better than the bigger Drifter---or the Gilroy Indians!

No coincidence at all. Denny Berg, the designer, was tasked to make something "special" with a Vulcan (He is with Cobra now and I think he was then as well). His thought was "what would an Indian look like now if they were still in business". And the Drifter was born and Kawasaki bought in. It was planned to be a very limited run. Remember, he designed this back in 1995/96 before Indian resurfaced in California. If you are interested do a google search for the Super Chief / Denny Berg. He has created some cool bikes. And, he is a pretty cool down to earth person too.

Had a 2003 800 Vulcan Classic. Really nice engine, but the darn thing scraped way to easily in the corners. My 2006 XL883 has way better leanability. The Vulcan engine in a sportier framed and suspended bike would be a fine ride.

A friend of mine has the 1500 . Sweet bike. Very unique. I told him he should keep that thing for ever. It's bound to go up in value at some point.

There are some good deals on those bikes. Even ebay has a few low mileage ones for cheap.
