Looking good. Have to say that bike looked pretty scary in the start of all this, but you got it coming together.

What's your plan for the rear shock?

Yes, I know, it was a heap of rusty and greasy junk when I bought it, but the main part, the engine is rock solid and works flawlessly, and the rest of the bike is made of aluminium so it just needed a good sandblasting and fresh paint and I presume that it will be ok for the next 20 years or so when I finish upgrading it :-)

Also, me keeping it in the garden and on the snow and rain didn't help the "presentation" of the project I presume, but now when it is in a warm and dry place, it gets all the lovin it deserves.

Regarding a rear suspension, well, I have few options:

    1. replace the original spring with the newer one and ride it that way untill the shock dies ( it is a 2002 shock, so it is not 23 years old )

    2. find a newer generation shock somefhere ( the bike was sold untill 2008. ) so the shocks are available still

    3. I found some new(ish) shocks for other models, and I can fit a zzr 1100, zxr, zx12 and few other shocks without too much modification on the mounts, and I just need a new lower shock swing which can be easily conected to the swingarm and the frame. I think that I will go this route, because I really want a stiff and responsive rear end, to match the performance of the front forks and balance it all up.

Thank you for the comment and the interest

    cheers :freaky

I finaly got some time to make a conversion from ZX6D fork to ZX7R USD fork. Finally the bike is a roller, I have put new road tires on for the summer, and in the fall I will mount something with more grip for the offroad use. Currently it is sitting as a kind of a scrambler/flat tracker. Next week I have to pick up a new steeringg, headlight, blinkers, speedo and few other gadgets so I can finish the sucker :-)

Well, I am not sure wether anybody is reading this or not, since there are no comments on this build, but I am going to keep on posting here untill the bike is finished :-)

I managed to get it out of the house today, and have put it back behind the house so I can start it up and drive it around my garden to test it before puting it on the road :-)

One of the biggest issues that I had with original bike were also the footrest "triangles". They were all bent up and wellded pretty poorly so they had to go. I managed to find very simmilar footrests, they are from a newer zx6e model, and are in mint condition. They just need cleaning and are going to be anodized black. I thought about sourcing the originals but what the heck, since I am scraping this bike together with parts from ten different motorcycles and modifying them, this is just another peaco of the puzzle. I am going to fabricate a bracket to fit them on the bike, because this is not a bolt on swap.

I think the difference is more then obvious :-)

Well, today was a very productive day, i spent my whole afternoon in the shed, working on a bike

first, I started with the bar risers, they are originaly from a kawasaki '87. gpz 600, and I chopped the original mounting holes, because I can't fit them on a zx7r upper tripple clamp, so I made new mounting points with receses for the nut heads

Clutch and brake levers were bent a bit, but not beyond repair :-)

So, I took a vise, and a heat gun and started to slowly form the levers, milimeter by milimeter, shifting leverage and momentum and heat across different sections, and in 10 minutes, voila, all the levers are as good as new :-)
