Ahhh I almost crapped my pants just seeing that picture. Something I hope to never see in person. Watching or otherwise.

Yup, there are independent manual brakes for a reason. (I only know this 'cuz I've been reading on it since the accident, I have no train operating experience.) AND - Wiki is saying that the engineer knew the engine that was left running was spitting oil and smoking heavily before he left it unattended as the only source of power for the air brakes.....

Well spotted on both counts - Here's a higher resolution crop.

He may not have been braking but was doing no more than 25 mph anyway

My DS helmet is going in the mail today! I'm thinking a single horn, unicorn style. Would that make me a bullicorn?

Wankles always put on a good flame show, the Mazda race cars use to throw out a garbage can size flame out the side pipes. The super hot exhaust keep the fumes hot enough to ignite when the exit the pipe and hit the O2 in the air.

That car would be illegal to drive in MI. State law prohibits vehicles that emit heavy smoke or flames.

It's not really as large a flame as the pic implies.

Yes. One of the reasons the original wankels went away. The new ones are better.
