There's allot more than momentary lapses in concentration going on at the gap. It attracts people who have no business driving or riding quickly (or at all quiet often) and then puts them on a technical road.

I guess it depends on if he had made the right decisions and had the right skillset to be there in the first place.

You want to ride the gap with no gear and no ability to control your bike. You get what's coming to you. Just don't take anyone else out with you.

And this post is going to do sooooo much to get the discussion to stop. Didn't this post just contribute even more to what you saw as the issue, which prompted this post and creates a vicious circle?

    Pics are easy.

    Go to google images
    Search 'killboy'
look down till you find one that isn't posted here
    copy image location
find the picture icon above the area you're typing in (hint: looks like a pic)
    paste url for that pic
    hit submit reply

If *I* can do it, anyone can.

    Arrogant much? :huh

What is the big deal? It's a road .. with corners. What's so 'technical' about it ... BTW I reckon that word 'technical' would have to be the biggest wank word ever ....:*sip*

well I must be doing something wrong, because that isn't working for me. Please elaborate on "copy image location". I have copied everything I can find to copy, without success.

    thanks

Alcohol, target fixation, insufficient ability and training, failure to maintain control. I didn't say that speed wasn't a factor, I said excessive speed. If speed weren't a factor, it would be a drop, not a crash. And if you want drops, sit in the parking lot at the store, it won't take long to see a few.

Slowing down is a marvelous way to mitigate all of those except alcohol.

Many happen at a speed where the gyroscopic effect is negligible. In other words, if the slow down any more, they'll fall over. So, how would slowing down help those that can't manage to turn out of the parking lot and ride straight up the hill leaving the parking lot? You obviously haven't seen the inexperience and ineptitude present at the Gap. Trust me when I say, speed ain't got nothin' to do with it.

Yeah. I've seen it. I've been there, and a few similar places. Parking lot fails are not the issue here. The vast majority of failures in this thread, and on motorcycles in general, would be avoided, or at least be less disastrous, if the rider would simply slow down.

Nope... but adding certain individuals to the ignore list certainly will (at least for me).

I don't know about the state of motorcycling and driving in Aus, but we've got some pretty bad riders and drivers here. Which should be obvious by the number of people who in this thread have crashed or crossed the center lane, and the gap attracts douche bags. It's a really awesome road and there are lots of other really awesome roads around there, but I'd never be on it on a weekend these days.

Techincal refers to the nature of the turns many of the turns have radius changes and elevation changes.
