North. It starts near Cortez and ends on the Wyoming border.

This is about our chase truck and an opportunity for those attending the ride
to bring their spouses to ride along on the COBDR but dont have a Bike
of their own or for those who are attending an would like to have their gear
carried by the chase truck leaving them with a nice empty bike to enjoy the ride

Just a reminder Back Road Equipment will be giving away one of it's versatile rear rack and top case mount kits to a lucky participant of this rally. Have fun and ride safe!

Start is 7/23. End will vary based on many factors. I've read 4-6 days. I'm planning on 6.

When I rode it on my KLR with the boys from Butler MC Maps and Touratech, we completed it by mid-afternoon on the seventh day.

And that was with lots of time spent filming along the way, meaning making U-turns and repeating things for Sterling Noren's camera. I would think six days would be realistic, and comfortable. I couldn't imagine packing it into four days. And who would want to. This is something you'll want to savor.

I believe the general plans are to cover about 100 miles a day, which would take 7 days. This would allow time for side trips, sight seeing and ripping over alternate dangerous passes.

That would be a pleasant pace, giving you time to enjoy the terrific campsites along the way.

Plus ... Being on KLRs, you won't lose time waiting for KTMsters to make their trailside repairs. :lol3

My only issues mechanically were finding Rotella along the way (found a resupply at a quick-lube place), keeping oil in it, maintaining the air filter, and a side-rack bolt falling off.

Not sure I can do a whole week, but would be interested in 3 or 4 days.

You would definitely be able to do that. We have about 50 riders who say they will be going. Groups from about 4-6 I imagine.

Hey everyone.... just an update. It looks like we will have almost/about 60 people going. We need to know who might want a hotel room in Cortez the night before. (I am not doing the booking, just finding a place to block out rooms....folks will do their own booking.) I will block out 2 bed rooms. July 22nd we will have a pre rally meeting the evening before.... location TBD (most likely a restaurant we will commandeer) I am finishing up plans for the tshirts/hoodies/hats...etc...to be ordered individually before the event. Anyone NOT on FaceBook who has sent me a email to "davekubler@gmail.com" will get email notifications (when I send em....not often) of any detail changes. Keep in mind...although you may not like FaceBook, it is where this rally originated from, and the bulk of the riders are avid FaceBook group users.... Let's all keep this a POSITIVE event.... like momma said, if you don't have something NICE to say/offer.... keep quiet ! :)

I look forward to riding with all of you !

First Annual KLR 650 Owners Group rally @ the COBDR

Dates: Wed July 23rd – Tue July 29th.

Meet Location: Cortez, CO Tuesday July 22nd.

Hotel for night before (July 22nd) : TBD

    Dinner/meet: TBD

    Grouping/rider levels: TBD at meeting

Giveaway/Prizes: at meeting (only those present at meeting will be eligible)

Rally Memorabilia : Hats/Tshirts/Hoodies/Stickers….etc…. all info/pricing will be made available as soon as I have it. I am waiting till latest possible time frame as to be able to let as many folks who want stuff get it, yet still place just 1 bulk order for things. I will take orders and payment (no profits made) for any things you want, and I will have them to hand out in Cortez.

Route Planning/Mapping : We will be following the COBDR whenever possible. There will be alternate routes, and everyone is free to ride and follow what ever they want. The GROUP will follow the COBDR, and will not entertain debates about where/which way to go. There will be plenty of maps about, plus GPS units galore. I personally will be able to follow via my GPS (proven method on the UTBDR) and will be happy to take lead if appropriate.

Camping/Hotels : The official GROUP will be planning/expecting to be trailside camping. That does not mean we won’t be at a campsite 1 or more nights….but I do not want to PLAN on that, be prepared for non campsite camping. There ARE hotels that can be found near the route. However, remember if you are planning on using hotels, it will be YOUR job to make it back to the group in order to ride together. We will be deciding official ‘roll out’ times to break camp as to be able to have hotel folks be able to coordinate how to meet up We will make efforts to make camp in areas where meeting back up is appropriate. I will say again, using hotels MAY cause difficulty in leaving/joining back up with the group. We may be better suited letting the hotel folk ride together…

Contact Info: (good idea if we share our cells…texting when in service will be a very good way to communicate)
