Tourances with about 4500 miles on them (4000 in the previous 7 days) and a very flat spot.

I really liked them on the KLR by the way. I would highly recommend them if your planning some serious highway miles.

How did you mount the Pelicans to the rack? Do they come off quick?

The PO mounted the Pelicans, and all the other farkles. They're easy enough to remove, you just unscrew (by hand) two knob bolts inside each case and they come off. Open the case, hand-turn the two big knob-bolts (large bolts with knob handles). Each case has two knob bolts that screw all the way through the rack mounts.

The cases rest on a mount that's attached to the outside of the case and rests on the lower rack bar (the mount is screwed to the back of the cases, rests on the rack bar). All of the weight of the case rests on the lower mount, which simply sits on the rack bar (not attached to it). The top knob handles, screwed through the case into the rack, hold the case to the rack.

Does that make sense? If not, I can post pix.

Here's my '01 (with '05 plastics and tank) as I was installing raising links last weekend.

Note the green seat & fork boots (holdovers from the '01) and high-tech (pine) bike stand I used ?

It a Russell seat, installed a few months ago by the PO. The PO was a pretty big guy, over 300 lbs. I weigh about 200, and was a little wary of it at first. But after a couple of 100 mile-plus rides I find it extremely comfortable.

It's firm, but does not contribute to butt numbness or fatigue. The side bolsters on it tend to hold you in place, you don't slide around on it. I thought about selling it and putting on a Corbin, but now, I'm going to keep it.

Here's the farkle list, most of which came with the bike. All new, installed last fall by the PO who was outfitting the bike for a long adventure ride, then decided to buy a big BMW!:

    Pro Taper bars
    320mm front disc kit
    Large rear rack
    Happy Trails SU rack
Happy Trails highway bars/bike protector set
    1550 Pelican cases
    Russell seat
    Progessive fork springs
    Uprated shock spring
    Eagle Mike raising links
Upgraded switch gear w/push to cancel signals
    Clearview tall screen
    I-Brake LED brake lamp
    Wolfman tank bag
    Wolfman glove compartment bag
    Doohickey done
ATO weatherproof fuse kit and Accesory fuse kit from TWC
    Power Madd handguards

I can't wait for warmer riding weather. I ride to work now all days that don't have snow/ice.
