A little warm, a little sunny, a good day for a ride!
Not sure what the exact distinction or who coined the phrase but I call all the years with the outlandish color scheme a Barbie. Also as far as I'm concerned the only Kawi's that need to be Kawi green are the true dirt bikes.
The blue, white, and green was used on the 1989-1994 ZX-7 and some ZX-6's as well and was a popular scheme. My understanding of Barbie was the funky "girls" colors. It's even referred to those two years on Wattman's history of the KLR page. To some the 2013's are "outlandish" and have been referred to as having "Hot Wheels" graphics. I actually like the 2013's, especially in yellow.
As far as the green, they use the lime on every Ninja model as well as some other street models so MX only doesn't hold any special conotations with me. Honda paints everything red. Yamaha blue comes on just about everything with a tuning fork including the portable generators. If that's your position, I can understand that. I just like the lime so it made it THE KLR to have to ME. Although the dark greens are nice as well.
Could be. I understood the blue, green, white to be Barbie's and the ones with pink on them were the Malibu Barbie's. Either way really doesn't matter to me, I like all those years. As far as Honda painting EVERYTHING red, Yamaha, blue, Suzuki , yellow.... Well ?
I've been known to accuse my '05 KLR of trying to pretend it's a Honda.
That could be. Personally I love the blue, green, and white, but I don't think I could do the aqua, pink, and purple.
My point with Honda was no one, even KTM, keeps a MX only color. Those colors have become their corporate identity. I remember when the KX's where green and blue and now they are green and black. In fact all Big 4 have changed since the 80's. Honda was red and blue, Suzuki was yellow and blue, and Yamaha was yellow and black. It was just an observation on Kawasaki not needed to horde the lime green.
When I saw a KLX250S the other day in red I thought Honda right off the bat. I understand black and white in addition to the green, but red?
I never refered to or considered my 1990 to be a "Barbie Bike" but some do. I consider the "Barbies" to be that funky pastel blue/green colar that was used for a couple of years, but if somebody wants to refer to mine as a "Barbie" I really don't care and take no offense to it.
Installed the PackRat rack and Pelican 1550s today. Bought the Pelicans locally from a electronics liquidator and holy moly was the glue/foam difficult to remove.
I've always thought of those as Barbies and yours as Kens.
Oh sure, cloud the mix even more!
So does this make mine a GI Joe?
Clothes that a real Barbie wears....
This Barbie fell and broke her back (broken frame) Plastics and the rest of the bike were in good condition. Made for a nice find and parts bike for me.
I paid extra for an '06 cuz it was lime green. She looks different today but, this wasn't too long after I first got her.
http:// Money well spent as far as I'm concerned.
Thats a sharp lookin KLR right there!
Thanks! You either love it or hate it.... Some like to load 'em down, some like 'em naked. Not too hard to tell my preference!
The fenders and tank really make it look like a totally different bike and i like it a lot.
She's a beauty.
Thanks. Some have no idea what it is, some think it is a KLX. I call it my KLR-X, hence the dash....
