Will a 120/90-606 fit on a KLX300?? Anybody ever try it?? I just tried a pirelli MT21 since I didn't think the dunlop would fit, and got 3 pinch flats on one ride. The sidewall on the MT 21's is way to soft. I was runing over 20 psi in it as well. I would really like a DOT knobbie on it though, since its plated. I'm open to non dot suggestions at this point, if the 606 won't fit.

The 250s rack will not fit the 300 rear frame as the 250 has way different mounting brackets, I guess you could weld in some brackets but it would not be a piece of cake.

I tried one years ago, Not the 606 but a 120, it was too much tire, the 300 works much better with a smaller rear tire, You need to be able to spin it,
That is what I found out
I don't worry about DOT, as here in NV they don't care, but when I ride in CA I might have a problem???

I have done the 120 thing and ,as stated,it sucks a lot of the "hit" out of this bike.Go with a 110/100 at the largest.I had been running the 110 for 2 years now and just switched back to a 100..It spins up much more easily with the 100 on. Have you tried the Kenda k760? I swear by them...inexpensive,relatively long wearing (on a small bike) and boy do they hook up! I have yet to pinch flat one but and I run 15psi with a standard tube.

I have a kenda trackmaster on the back of my 300 right now (120) and it seems to work ok. I raced a "flat MX" (dirt surface no jumps) in praire loam on it worked pretty well with the bikes geometry ,I thought.

One of the best tires I have found so far is the Maxxis cross IT. Hooked up pretty well in most conditions (except mud, it cleans OK but not really well) and wears like iron. Not DOT though.

The 606's are great, I run them on the longer trips where I know I'm going to be doing some highway sections.

    For dirt only trips, 739's.

Soooo where was this thread when I was trying to figure out what DP bike to buy?
I think I made the right choice. Its an 02 owned by a little old man up in Michigan:D I bought it right after I'd had Hernia surgery so the initial "test"ride was a bit brief, but the price was good and it was already plated. So I jumped in with both feet. THis is my first dirt bike in 20 years so I'm a bit rusty and have yet to hit any trails here in California.... no clue how to ad a pi but here it is...

May 21, 2008!:roflFigures, and I only bought it because the XR650 I'd looked at the previous week got dropped on the highway and was a loss....
Originally I bought the KLX to put on a trailer and bring it out here to Cal to use as a tool for looking for a new place for the wife and I. The old Quattro gets 22mpg on the highway and since I knew I'd be bombing up and down the Peninsula looking for a house in San Jose and staying at my bro's place in San Francisco.... the $2k was money well spent!:clap

NOW I need to upgrade the electrics. I put turn-signals and a horn on and have a small battery tucked into the airbox that I charge every night... but that is getting pretty old...

Yes it took awhile to get the water out of both of the bikes, I took my 300 across first and it was a little deeper where I crossed,(No Pics) and the water came over the top of the seat, We just took the sparks plugs out, ringed out the filters and rode on, Had to stop and drain the carbs a couple of times then they cleaned up,

Do a search online for Kawasaki Parts, and there are dealers offering discounts, should be able to get them for less than $80.00 ea, still too much but better than 100

I could use a little help here. The KLX has become my favorite bike to ride but I'm a little antsy riding on the street at night. The head light is pretty worthless mostly reflecting light off the fender. Not that I mind illuminating the fender, but I'd like to see the critters in the road BEFORE i get right on top of them!:D
Currently (sorry for the pun) I'm running the stock AC setup with a Battery in the airbox that powers the turn signals, brake light and horn. What I want to do is turn this into a DC charging system so everything will run off the battery.
Question is what kind of rectifier do I need to wire this up? I'm not too concered with a regulator as I'm prety sure the stator isn't going to
    overcharge the battery.
I got the KLX250 manual the 300 suppement is on its way and I should have it by Friday. Anyone here have any experience with this? Anyone in the San Jose area that has done this and would be willing to let me look at their set up?:huh
    Thanks!

The Best option is to have your Stator rewound, There are a few companies that do it, Baja Designs is one that comes to mind, So instead of the stock 75-90 watts they will re-wind it to about 150watts , so you can charge your battery , run a larger headlight, heated grips, power a gps etc.

Thanks, I'm calling them today. I'm not so sure the stock stator puts out 80 watts even.
How do you find all the fire roads you chased from your place to Montana? That looks like a HOOT!:clap:clap
