KLX650R with the steel tank A1 model didn't have the fan.

Yes you can paint the engine with success, Degrease then spray with spray can "Light Metalic Silver"
The "C" model engine that I am rebuilding at the moment, I glass bead blasted it back to bare alloy.
Make sure you set the valves at their maximum clearance, as big a gap as possible, You need to get that oil on top bucket shim and under that cam lobe or it will chew out the cams and the bucket shims. :deal talking from experiance.
    Cheers Fogo..

Your very fortunate to start with a clean, well taken care of bike. Hard to tell from the video, but the can seems pretty quite...which is not a bad thing.

    Cheers,

    Tom.

I purchased a few updated Maier MX style rear fenders to put on the KLXs,, the fender as delivered were for a 300, I ended up cutting two inches off the rear of the subframe and then made a few cuts to the front of the fender to move it forward a little bit, about an inch, this brings the part of the fender designed for the rear of the 300 seat closer to the rear of the 650 seat, not sure but I suspect the 300 seat is just a little longer at the rear. If I bolt the fender on and use the standard holes there is a gap between the seat and fender that puts it too far back and pointed to high. Just plain looks weird.
Here are a few pictures of the 93 and 96 to compare, I also did the conversion to the 96 shortly after. I think it look pretty good and adds a better tail light.
