Now in Zion Utah. Rode through Vegas at temperatures about 105. The gorge to Arizona right after the Nevada border was impressive and so is Zion with the tunnels and The rocks and deers/goats/bambis.

Heading to MOAB tomorrow through the Valley 'o the Gods, spend the night, then off to Salt Lake City to see some friends. Utah so far does have alcohol, Polygamy brew to be exact (why have just one !), the bike is way overloaded and I will probably ship some stuff back home soon, otherwise all cool and will share some pictures and video probably from Salt Lake when we get more reliable wifi.

About a mont, month and a half im thinking. South east might be a problem because of the heat in august so we might wuss out of that one. But like they say at the AA: One step at a time.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully a proper entry tonight, since we might be staying in a hotel and i should have time to edit the pictures and write smth coherent.

For now were just going out to check salt lake city. Always wanted to see that big white mormon church with the golden trumpet-ing angel.

Alright let's se if i can put some coherent recap here so far.

The tale begins with us leaving LA about 9-10 am. We found out that the bike was way overloaded (surprise), but if i can make it stand straight and have Allie gracefully! jump on top, i can ride it,..sort of. We take off into the general direction of Las Vegas as the fumes of heat slowly rise. As we get closer to the city loved by sinners, soon to get married couples and grandmas with slot machine cards those same fumes of heat are getting to intoxicating levels. In this haze of sweat in the eyelashes i see an Suv in front of me make some swings very unutarual for that type of beast. Crash. The Montero swings left and right (tried to avoid a bright fellow who changed lanes without looking) nauseatingly and when i thought it was about to regain its footing, does a big flip rotating in the air towards us. I had ben slowly pressing on the brakes as Allie is also slowly digging on to my sides. Montero lands on its roof as we have plenty of room still to go around it. Bad crash.

What can we do? We slowly move on as we see other people stop their cars and rush to help.

Right. Get it together, it all happened very emotionlessly and in slow motion. We werent in danger, so we plough ahead through the increasing heat,..105F they said ?

We stop for another cold one in one of the Last casinos before the Arizona border. The gorge right after you enter Arizona is pretty cool and longer then i was expecting. Nice twisty road, slight wind but not too bad.

Onwards to Zion. Scenery changes, tarmac goes a deep clay color with yellow lines (very stylish), the rock surrounding us is a deep pink terracota with cuts and brusies like an angsty goth teenager's thighs. Distorted shapes are pretty.

We get our annual national parks card, see our first bambi and as we head into the canyon, Allie promptly drops the card :) So we have to do the dance of: Ok! easy now! Ok here i go! Wait, urrghh, mmfpf, ok cool we didn't drop the bike (im probably pushing about 950 pounds right now on tiptoes). As a first day and somewhat beat up by the heat, the pics of Zion itself are not our best efort, but its the first day, so a break please.

Curvy road steeping up, reminds me of some roads in Albania. Massive red rock that makes you want to be a geologist. A tunnel comes up that is much longer then anticipated,...cool, dark and every quarter mile or so with a big balcony punched through the mountain as if excpeting some king to give a speech to the populace below.

The most bizarre thing happens after you get on the other side of the tunnel. The rock is not rock anymore but its a close up of the skin of Jabba the Hut. Actually way more intense. Trippy stuff,..hey wait look at those wild dear/goat/ram/bambis over there. Cool.

Zion Ponderosa, a lodge where we have reserved a cowboy/settler wagon (mind you) to spend our first night, is on the east end of Zion. The scenery has changed here to languid fields of corn and grass, rolling hills and a road called "The End Of The" rd.

Nothing much to say, look at the pics to see the settler wagon (no wheels). Its cute and smells like wood and we sleep like rock after seeping some beer and taking some long shutters. They did sell beer there. A kind popular around these parts, it's called Polygamy Brew or smth similar, catch phrase being pretty catchy at: Why have just one!

Next day pool and lounge the hot part of the day off. I open up the bike to check the coolant (add some) and on the other side gypsy rig the plastic shroud that goes around the radiator so it doesn't grind against the fan (why has it never done it before ?).

Back down to Zion to look at more red rock, buy some whiskey at the little tourist town (te woman there gave us a stern look for being alcoholic degenerates) and move our stuff to our slot where we now need to erect a tent. Im not totally convinced of this yet since this is my first time setting up camp and sleeping out in a tent (except for one single blurry night loooooong time ago). I make fire, Allie makes steaks, we drink some whiskey, get bitten by some insects, go to sleep in our new pads and all is nice and cool and pretty,...well expect for the budhist monks!!(yes true) that were camping on the other side of the hill and playing some sort of a buddhist game. German thigh slapping comes to mind, but like i say, the buddhist version of it. Very bizarre view, waking up in the morning in a tent in a mountain in Utah and seeing red robbed Budhist monks coming down the hill with toothbrushes in their hands.

Anywhoo, we pack, we mount, we take off. Onto Bryce canyon i say. Ok she says. It is nice and cool for a change and we are doing good time as my phone chirps to inform me just like i definitely felt, that there is a weather advisory about high winds in the area. I love strong gusts of wind that throw the bike around like a paper plane and then....

but wait its 10pm here and were heading out of Salt Lake City tomorrow morning, so i will continue this story probably from Oregon ! .. :p

    see ya out there

It was great to meet you and Allie at Bryce. We are in Rawlins, Wyoming after riding through a few T-storms (always fun). Heading tomorrow to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and then Cody.

If you get a chance email the pics you took when we met up.

Like said above, at Bryce canyon we met two of the coolest FFs on adv Pastorags and Griffrank and we rode together to the park, hung out and took some pics. Here they are:

The initial plan was to go to MOAB, spend the night, head to Aspen for a night then back towards Oregon with a stop in Salt Lake city. We decided to speed up and have Allie's birthday in Seattle (July 4th). By the time we decided this, we were already on good chunk of the way towards MOAB s we had to backtrack through the 10 (lost little highway in Utah,.with tremendous straight stretches amongst rock and wind). Im skipping the details and going to some pictures:

You should have plenty of time in Chicago to post some more of the beautiful photos you have tucked away in that hard drive.

It was a pleasure to meet you both!
