Damn, that was you. I've been looking for you and that bike ever since. Talking to you up there and looking at your bike are the reasons I bought mine the following winter.

What ever happend to your low exhaust and subframe? I bought a set from a guy down in south LA county (eBay) a couple of years ago and wondered if they were yours. It's good to finally find you and your bike again.

BTW: we talked about the various other Dakar styled bikes that day, including the Elefants. I'm guilty there as well, now: 1994 E900 and 1987 650 Lucky Strikes. I also seem to remember you having a story about a Moto Guzzi.

Yeah, I do have a Moto Guzzi Quota E/S (Enduro/Strada) and a few Elefants, between here and Europe.

Since you have a couple of Elefant's we should talk off-line about an upcoming ride in Nevada.

I still have my original exhaust setup although the front and the crossover pipes are pretty smashed, they are just way to exposed in tight stuff.

The high mounted dual pipes may not look as cool but they are out of the way and sounds pretty good.

However, if I had to do it over, I would use oval section mufflers.

They really don't sound any different. The dual pipes are a two-into-one system. The exhaust flows mainly out of the right side muffler. The left side is hooked into the main pipe by a horseshoe. In fact, the crossover actually points to the rear of the bike, not the front like a normal Y-pipe.

It's mainly there as a resonator and to add volume to the system. It's really heavy compared to a single system. There is no advantage that I know of except that it looks like a Rallye (and that's enough for me :D).

OK, it wasn't your system then. Yes, my crossover broke going through Mengel Pass, after beating it into some rocks. I bought that other system to replace that crossover and replace a scraped up muffler. I'm not beating that bike offroad anymore. I have a '99 to use for that.

Does anybody know where to get replacement tank decals? A shop with old stock on the shelf? I tried to buy replacements but Cycle Hutt told me they couldn't get them.

Hey guys. Thanks for putting together all of the info in this thread, it’s been super useful. I just picked up a 1998 620 Adventure from a fellow board member and its VIN number ends with 8857. It doesn't look like it's in your list yet so feel free to add it :D

    Hey Thule,

Did the previous owner have it for a short time? There was one for sale in Burien that I just missed last year.

I picked it up from a guy here on the board in Wenatchee. He owned it for about 4 years and previously the bike lived in Tacoma.

If you're looking for one there is a 98 with some nice upgrades on it on Denver CL right now for $3500

1999 KTM LC4 640 AdventureR. This bike is a blast to ride, a capable dirt bike as well as on the highway. It has Ortlieb pannier bags, a luggage rack, extra tires (new never mounted) as well as another set of fenders, an extra rear wheel (excel rim with talon hub), and lots more extras. It has 14,XXX miles on and has been well maintained mechanically, does have a few scrapes and scratches as it has been used off road like it should be. Open to trades for a 450 quad or sport bike, $3000 OBO. John, (360) 789-3661

VERY happy to have stumbled upon this thread/find other owners.....I had no idea these bikes were so rare until I showed up in Denver to buy VIN 8793 last month. Purchased from 4th(?) owner and ADVRider member RedRice (Garr Rice) in September 08. Really enjoying the bike and looking forward to returning to CO. for West Fest 09! :norton
So, for the record (on page one), Vin 8793 now belongs to "ME". :clap

A few nice MODS on the bike "As Purchased"

    -Custom rallye exhaust
-FCR39MXII carb (JD jet kit, R&D mixture screw, Honda diaphram).
    -30mm risers by loaded
-12V outlet on left of console. Switch to..."nothing".... on right side (I may utilize that switch for heated grips in the future)

Only MODs "I've made" (thus far) was purchase/install of right mirror and installation of Baja Designs LED rear tail/brake light & license plate holder and flush mount turn signals....
