Thanks for the help guys..... Btw is there any store that sell 640a parts like high windshield or the rallye bashplate? So any big KTM dealer store around Stuttgart/Mnich area other than driving to mattighofen Austria?

My bike died on the freeway last July. At 90 kph the engine stopped as if I'd hit the kill switch. Ignition fuse was blown so I changed it 3 times at the side of the road and then trailered it home.
I removed the front cowl thinking there was a shorted wire - WOW!! I found 5 worn through wires! Fixed them and bike turned over but would NOT fire :evil. I changed the spark plug, serviced the valves and carb (carb slider is a bit worn and loose - bike has 50000km). There was a spark but still wouldn't start.

So my KTM buddy Gunnerbuck figured it may be the stator. I just opened the stator cover and found this...

    A Scored stator :eek1

    Iron filings galore...

A scrap of metal that helped do the grinding

I'll get a new stator, clean this up and report back.

My 2000 ADV did the same thing, turns out it was one or two of the starter gear teeth, that broke off and got sucked into the magnets on the rotor...so you may want to give them all a good once over.

Hockey stick silencer? What's that? I would like to eventually get rid of my original muffler and get a slip on, mostly to save weight and lower center of gravity. I believe the original exhaust pipe has to stay because slip on sale info says must keep original exhaust pipe. Is there a titanium exhaust pipe that matches up with a titanium muffler? That would really lose quite a few pounds and make me lighter by a grand too I expect $$ !!
When time for a new battery I intend to get one that weighs less than two pounds advertised.

Just picked up a new to me 02 640 adventure. Pretty stock has a few mods nothing fancy though. sure is nice to buzz around town on not quite the same as far as power compared to the 950SE though. Once I got the carb sorted and some fresh gas the thing runs like a top:freaky:freaky

Tomorrow I'm leaving from Finland towards Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia with my 2003 LC4 Adventure. The round trip will probably be about 15000 kms and 60 days in length. Great adventure awaits me!

I will be documenting my trip at http://www.viasiberia.blogspot.com

The bike was absolutely fine with this weather -- started right up on the first turn and couldn't wait to enjoy the snow.

Finally got my '06 640Adv back together after taking it apart for some welding last fall, can someone please remind me what the little 5mm bolt that goes into the subframe roughly under my finger behind the sidecover is for? Thanks in advance

The bolt reciever behind your finger is probably for the oem exhaust bracket...

You're talking on the stocker 2 mounts for just the can? Makes sense as I can't think of anything else that would go there...
