    2001 Ktm 640 adventure

Bought it more than a year ago and have been using it since then.

Just returned from a service and is now in tip top shape! :)

(thank god the starter clutch finally works again)

Has anyone fitted a set of Fasst Flexx bars to their 640A? Had a set on my Banshee a few years back and they were fantastic.

Any feedback would be great as I'm thinking of getting a set.

    Cheers.

Had some question for everyone. I'm looking at joining the ktm 640 adventure club and was hoping for some insight as to whether this would be good for my type of riding. I currently ride an xr 600 with a ims 4+ gallon tank. I mainly ride dual sport roads and some more technical stuff in northern wisconsin.
My concern really is the weight. What are your thought, oh the bike is an 2003 ktm lc4 adventure.

    Thanks

    Buy the KTM.

    Sell the XR.

By me a beer later! You will not regret it. 2003 is the good year as well!!

Polson, I fully agree with Mxchamp.
Let me tell you the KTM vs the XR600 is a Ferrari vs a Daihatsu, there are no comparing points!
And if your concern is about weight, as I remember the XR600 is a very heavy one, although I can't remember how many kilos... but I think the 158kgs + fluids of the KTM 640 can't be far (if not under) from the XR600's weight... shoot and ride it :D

Replacment clutch and throttle cables and cable housings for a 2002 640E

I was in South Africa and they wanted $100 usd for the throttle cable alone!! Is there a non KTM source for these parts in the US?

    Thx

Which pre-owned well cared for LC4 for me :ear. I have five years of progressively aggressive riding on 70s-90s standards (400 - 800cc twins)... 75,000kms - 32" in-seam.

Province: Nova Scotia... that's on the east coast of Canada - just above the USA !
Roads: Urban / sub-urban /two lane hwy / country and coastal routes / some trail / occasional 'looks-like-a-trail-let's-see-where-it-goes'
Road Conditions: Couple of smooth ones, but mostly with lake sized pot holes, mountainous frost heaves - oh and covered in sand and salt half the year
Weather Conditions: Fog, Rain, sleet, hail, snow... bit of sun now and again
    Mileage: 12k kms per year
    Riding Range: 300km radius
KTM Dealer: 20 minutes cross town in light traffic
Wrenching skills: I can spell wrenches... just don't have any - or the inclination to use them if I did.
Storage cases: Yes... bigger the better - always hauling stuff
    Heated grips: Please
    Budget: $5,000

There is a buyers guide & much more in the index thread if you haven't found that yet.

The LC4 got a few upgrades in 03 that are nice to have.

Do some research on the common issues, even good KTM shops may not have seen many LC4's & won't know much about them.

At 30-50K km I would do some maintenance on a used bike; water pump rebuild, cam & follower bearings, new starter clutch, service the suspension & linkage. Maybe give the carb a check, clean & service. The good news is once you've done all that you should be good for another 30-50K without much more than oil & filter changes & a few valve clearance checks.

If you are carrying lots of stuff over rough roads look into reinforcing the subframe. It's not complicated.

    Cheers
    Clint

Thank you for the link and all the helpful tips Clint... researching underway - just making sure I've identified the right model for my usage. IMHO I've ruled out the Duke, SM & Enduro to focus my search on 640 Adventures.

Picked up my adv640 today, it will accompany my adv990 and I will use the lc4 to drive to Dakar March 2013. The previous owner thought it would be cool to airbrush the bike. Although he did a more than decent job, it is not my style and I will go for a repsol decal set. (same as my adv990)

Needs more lasers. Sorry, but that paint job is just awful! I think it's funny that there was a small spot left, and a Tarantula added to fill it.

Never thought as possible that a 640ADV owner could do that to one of our bikes.... despite the possible artistic value... it's really awful :puke1
I can understand though why he sold it... they were not one for each other!!! :lol3
Fortunately, now that poor thing has a real owner.... :clap

(no ofense to the previous owner, I know everbody has the right to convert his ass in a vase just because...)

Please post pics when you apply the new decals!
    Cheers!

    Hi everyone,
I need some help locating a 640 owner/member to whom I promised to send lowering links.

My email was hacked and I lost his mailing address.

The member plans to travel on a lowered bike.
Does anyone know who this might be?

If you do please PM me.
