    Thanks Surly, they're used with a very basic set of throwover soft panniers, search for my trip reports, There's a coupla (crappy) pics showing them mounted somewhere there. I'll upgrade to some nicer more waterproof soft bags sometime.

    anyways, clintnz, that is a nice setup, realy clean - just for soft bags I assume. when you get more time and inclination you should post a little thread on your design and the details, such as what are the AL tubes from?

    Orange Nasty had to save the day in DV, The beast was just put back together by me and this was her first ride and she hauled two over weight guys up over Gohler Wash and down Mengal pass for over 30 nasty off road miles in Death Valley to rescue a Kawi. She performed flawlessly in all conditions....Orange Nasty rocks :thumb

    Santa's DVD ride and rescue report.

    R-dubb crashed his KLX and broke his arm about 30 miles into a remote area of Death Valley. A Unimog (sp?) had to take him out and leave his bike so we had to go back a couple of days later to get his bike back out.

    I hope there isn’t a required application form to join this elite club, because I just brought my "new" LC4 Adventure home last night. I’ve been dreaming about this bike for years and it’s hard to believe I have one in the garage.

    She’s a 2001 with 1,900 miles. Mods by the PO: Tech-Care suspension and Big Gun exhaust. A also got a Happy Trails pannier rack out of the deal.

    It’s been 50 degrees here the last couple days and it feels just like spring. Unfortunately, winter’s not over yet, so I will have some quality time with her in the garage. Before sping I plan to add hand gaurds and side stand. I also gotta start saving up for a comfortable seat.

    The 03' "comfort" seat worked great for me on my 01'...$99.00 from KTM, even less from KTMTalk.com mail order parts when yur a member, 15% off and no sales tax :thumb

    Thanks for the welcomes! I am psyched about this bike and gotta share my enthusiasm or I'll drive my wife nuts by talking about it constantly.

    I like the idea of the 03 comfort seat. In fact I much prefer the 03 color scheme and may end up replacing the side covers and rear fender with black plastic. I may keep the air box stickers orange just to add a bit more color. The plastic parts are surprisingly inexpensive.

    The Big Gun is the "Quiet Series." It's got a nice throaty growl. It's a bit loud for my tastes. Louder than the supertrapp with 8 discs on my NX. It bet it shaves off a few pounds though. The stock SS muffler is pretty heavy.

    I ordered a new 05 640 adv. Been looking for a used one and said what the hell. I love getting a new bike and yes i might be shallow but it makes me feel better. For quite a while too. WTF

    Does any one know what jetting changes need to be made on a new one. I had an 02 but can't remember what i did. I do remember the air box cover needs to be replaced with the vented one. I do remember the pilot jet, needle position and main jet need to be changed. I wanted to do these changes right away.

    John did you get yours, in Boise? Is it in yet?
    Thats where I am getting mine

    I ride at 4-6k feet and am heading to sea level for Baja and like to know if I should make these changes for those altitudes also

    Making the semi-safe assumption that 2005 will be the same as '03 - '04 here...

    1. Main jet... from 152.5 to 157.5 - 162.5... dependant on other variables.

    2. Needle clip from #3 to #4 position

    3. Slide vacuum ports... drill to .110 - .125", or 3mm

    4. Leave the pilot air and fuel jets alone for now. Doesn't seem to be an issue on '03 and later.

    5. Mixture screw... adjust idle speed to 1800 RPM on a hot bike, adjust mixture screw to provide fastest idle (usually no more than 1/2 turn in or out), then readjust idle speed to 1600 +/- 50.

    Since John rides at similar altitudes to me, I'm figuring the lower end of the main jet recommendation (157.5) might still be a little fat. With the IDS2 and the KTM sidecover I am still at OEM (152.5) and have no signs of being too lean. :wink: For his sea level forays, Creep's recommendations are likely spot on... :thumb

    Ahhhh... another altitude sickness candidate like poor ChrisC... :lol3 Yep, your right.... John, do whatever Chris sugggests, he's the "elevation man".
    I've had my jetting to 7K ft. and it was a little on the blubbery side... 2K or less works groovy... above... progressively leaner.
